HOW TO CHEAT AT EVERYTHING Over lunch with Simon Lovell, a fascinating former card shark, Allison Schrager learns all sorts of things about how swindlers operate ... Special to MORE INTELLIGENT LIFE "I can spot someone's weakness a mile away. In any room I can pick out the best target," says Simon Lovell, reformed con artist and famed magician, when asked over lunch about the root of his talents. "Take that woman over there." "Or that man over there, over-dressed, too neat, over-confident, thinks he is too smart to be taken." "But ultimately, anyone can be conned, if you have the balls to do it." Simon Lovell should know. Presently, instead of subjecting people to cons, Mr Lovell stars in a one-man off-Broadway show, "Strange and Unusual Hobbies". "I could sell shit at an anti-scat party," he says, "you have to figure out someone's wants and needs and convince them what you have will fill their emotional void." It requires avid study of psychology and body language. Con men tend to be excellent conversationalists.

How to Be Alone I once knew a man who hated to be alone. It panicked him to the point where he sought to fill all of his waking hours with people. On the streets, at the bus stop, in restaurants, if he was unaccompanied he would soon find someone to talk to. I don’t judge him for his needs but as an introvert — someone who who requires being alone to re-energize — his constant seeking of the company of others made me feel claustrophobic. But clearly my friend wasn’t alone. Anyway, I digress. I recently found a little gem of a video on YouTube called How to Be Alone by filmaker Andrea Dorfman and poet/singer/songwriter Tanya Davis. I have to say, however, after extolling the virtues of solitude, that I’ve never HAD to be alone much in my life and the few I times I did (like when I changed schools in grade 12 and had no friends for three months) seemed cruel. I think the truest thing I have ever read about being alone was written by French writer Colette. Recent Kerry Slavens Articles:

The Change Cycle by Robert Dilts. To implement the Belief Change Cycle, lay out separate locations for each of the states associated with the 'landscape' of belief change. This essentially involves having the person put himself or herself as fully as possible into the experience and physiology associated with each of these aspects of the natural cycle of belief change and 'anchoring' them to specific spatial locations. 'Wanting to believe' something new. These states and mentors do not need to have any connection to the current belief issue you are trying to resolve. 'Landscape' of States Associated with the Belief Change Cycle Implementing the Belief Change Cycle Once this landscape has been laid out it can be utilized in many different ways. Stand in the 'Want to Believe' space, think of the 'new belief' that you would like to have more confidence in. Symbolic Belief Change Cycle Another application of this belief change 'landscape' involves the creation of symbols for each of the locations. 1. 1.1. 2.

Important Lesson: Don't look for happiness in material possessions and if things don't go your way, learn to accept them. Important Lesson: Not everyone is always going to like you, and that's fine. 4. 5. As the saying goes - "Only those who are asleep make no mistakes".

tips and downloads for getting things done @Blueluck: Very true - I've seen other countries where people leave their family in another country to go find work, and then to manual labor for extremely cheap just to be able to send it all home to their family. I guess that could be interpreted as their purpose, but the work is not purposeful in and of itself. I guess "pay enough to take money off the table" covers that, so we're only talking about how to motivate people after they're at the comfortable level most Americans that read this blog are at. Interesting results in India, though. I believe there is a threshold that once you're paid a certain amount, you feel on top of things like you deserve it, so you don't work hard to move up further. I think that's one reason government employees aren't known for super service. @Blueluck: Its completely subjective, is the answer.
