Why Atheism Will Replace Religion

Why Atheism Will Replace Religion
Atheists are heavily concentrated in economically developed countries, particularly the social democracies of Europe (Barber, 2012). In underdeveloped countries, there are virtually no atheists . Atheism is thus a peculiarly modern phenomenon. Why do modern conditions produce atheism? First, as to the distribution of atheism in the world, a clear pattern can be discerned. In sub-Saharan Africa there is almost no atheism (Zuckerman, 2007). The question of why economically developed countries turn to atheism has been batted around by anthropologists for about eighty years. Atheists are more likely to be college-educated people who live in cities and they are highly concentrated in the social democracies of Europe. It seems that people turn to religion as a salve for the difficulties and uncertainties of their lives. Even the psychological functions of religion face stiff competition today. The reasons that churches lose ground in developed countries can be summarized in market terms.

The Top 10 Psychology Studies of 2010 The end of 2010 fast approaches, and I'm thrilled to have been asked by the editors of Psychology Today to write about the Top 10 psychology studies of the year. I've focused on studies that I personally feel stand out, not only as examples of great science, but even more importantly, as examples of how the science of psychology can improve our lives. Each study has a clear "take home" message, offering the reader an insight or a simple strategy they can use to reach their goals , strengthen their relationships, make better decisions, or become happier. If you extract the wisdom from these ten studies and apply them in your own life, 2011 just might be a very good year. 1) How to Break Bad Habits If you are trying to stop smoking , swearing, or chewing your nails, you have probably tried the strategy of distracting yourself - taking your mind off whatever it is you are trying not to do - to break the habit. Is God A Criminal? Table of Contents Introduction Does God stand above morality, defining for us what is moral and what is immoral in accordance with His will? Or is morality a characteristic that exists independent of what God wills to be moral or immoral? The essential belief of those who believe in the Judeo-Christian God [3] is that God created the universe and all that is within it. But it is increasingly apparent that our human sense of morality is inconsistent with belief in the Judeo-Christian God and the consequent truth of the above paragraph. My approach to the Moral Argument Against God will be to attempt to summarize a fictional trial of God on charges of crimes against peace, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. The Facts of God's Acts In my capacity as the prosecutor of God, I will stipulate for the purposes of this trial that several of the books of the Holy Bible are the inerrant (or at the very least, the "authoritative") Word of God. All about placebos | Yes, I Can! by Robin Nixon Placebos are very strange things; inactive substances that make us feel better (or worse) simply because we think that they will. This video explains just how bizarre it all is, and shows just how powerful the human mind is. I think you’ll find it fascinating. In medical research, placebos are given as control treatments and depend on the use of measured deception. For a modern drug to be given the go-ahead by bodies such as the Food and Drug Administration in America, it must be shown to be significantly superior in effect to a placebo. Incredibly, though, it has been found that even when someone knows they are taking a placebo it can still have the same 30% effect. So next time you have a headache or other discomfort (or perhaps can’t sleep) and don’t have any pain killers (or sleep aids), see if you can find a mint or other pill-like sweet or candy, and imagine that it is a strong analgesic or soporific (even though you know it isn’t).

Welcome to Losingmyreligion.com! How much was a loaf of Brad in 1975 To find the answer, we must first quantify the value of Brad. So how much is a human life worth? According to research by Stanford economists, a year of human life is worth about $129,000. Wolfram Alpha tells us that the average age of a person named Brad is 35 years, and that the average life expectancy for a human male (worldwide) is about 69 years. Next we must decide if a "loaf" is a unit of volume, or a unit of weight. Since the average weight of a human male is 166 pounds (according to Wolfram Alpha), we can assume that Brad should sell for about $26,421 per pound - which, using our previous loaf weight of 1.3 pounds, sets the price for a loaf of Brad in 2010 at $34,348. Finally, inflation must be factored in. Thus, it is safe to say that a loaf of Brad in 1975 could be purchased for $8,710.72. Additional answers from our users: Typical of this site, the answer above is very US-centric, when there is no indication in the question as to where the 1975 Brad was to be purchased.

It's my personal opinion that this article is dead on. In more developed nations, there are better safety nets for the needy families that would otherwise turn to god for help as the last resort, henceforth stronger belief in science is produced. I think that Agnosticism is the next natural step for humanity. We can't rely on supernatural deities, as they in most probability don't exist in the way major religions portray. by bizarre Mar 22
