An Easy DIY Lipstick Palette

An Easy DIY Lipstick Palette
August 28th, 200822 Comments Have too many lipsticks and want a better option to carry them around? Jenbabae from the Makeup Alley forums has an easy do-it-yourself lipstick palette you can do at home. All you need is your favorite lip balms or lipsticks, a palette with however many wells you would like (you can find some great empty palettes at Japonesque), 1 teaspoon stainless steel measuring spoon, floss and flame. With that, you can achieve this: Cute right? The first step is to take the product you’ll be adding to the palette and use floss to slice through it as shown. It will soon look like this. Then slowly pour the mixture into the pan with a steady hand. Your final product will look like this. What would you put in your palette? Like This Post? ReLOOK TV Paris Beauty Video Series - Home LIPSTICK LONGEVITY photos + post by amy nadine, graphic design by eunice chun How could I not share with our TBD family my favorite trick for keeping clients’ lip colors on all night, long past the red carpet? Some steps may seem a little odd, but they’ve worked for me for years, so I confidently know that they’ll work for you too. Here’s all you have to do: STEP ONE: Apply lipstick or matte lip pencil over the entire lip area. My favorites are Bite Beauty High-Pigment Pencils {she’s wearing Poppy above} and Tarte Matte Natural Lip Stains (Fiery is also an amazing matte red} because they’re formulated like matte lipsticks but with easier precision. STEP TWO: Blot with a tissue by folding it in half, opening your mouth, placing it in between your upper and lower lips then pressing down. STEP THREE: Load up an eyeshadow blending brush with loose or pressed powder {translucent works best and if you want to invest in the most finely milled powder that feels like silk, this one is my favorite}. Tutorial : Soft Curls Without A Curling Iron I thought I'd share a simple way to curl your hair without the use of a curling iron. Hopefully, this hasn't already been done before. You want to start with your hair only slightly damp. Section your hair in half and twist one side all the way down. Without letting go of the twist, use your other hand to twist your hair into a bun onto the side of your head. Secure this tightly with a hair tie. Repeat the same process on the other side. You should look like you have two knobs coming out of both sides of your head. The next morning, make sure your hair is dry, and then let your hair loose. This works sort of like a gel. This gives your hair some texture and separates the curls so your hair will look more volumized. It's a little difficult to see, but this is the final result!

The Tightwad Try-Alls: Homemade Lip Gloss You know the scene…you walk into the bathroom to find your 3 year old smothered in your lipstick. You grab your camera to capture the glorious mess, then set about cleaning it all up. But what do you do with the mushed up chunk of lipstick left in the tube? Or what do you do with your lipstick when you’ve accidentally mashed it with the lid? It should come as no surprise that The Tightwad Gazette has a solution for you: I’m loving this idea! I keep large amounts of coconut oil on hand at all times. This process is so simple! lipstickcoconut oilempty containers (*I used little sample jars I received from a department store beauty counter. So, one of the reasons coconut oil is PERFECT for this little recipe (other than it’s powerful moisturizing abilities) is that it is a solid oil at room temp or below. Directions: Melt equal-ish parts of coconut oil and lipstick in a glass bowl in your microwave. Bonus idea!

How-To: The Cascade/Waterfall Braid The waterfall braid also known as the cascade braid recently exploded as the new "trend braid" of the season. The waterfall effect looks cool and complex, but it's easier to style than you think. Give this beautiful braid a try when Beautylish takes you through the how-to! Section Off The waterfall braid works best on straight or loose waves. Braid As Usual Braid your strands regularly three times, beginning from the right strand. Drop the Strand This is where it gets tricky. Step and Repeat Repeat this process—French braid the left strand, drop the right strand, and pick up an adjacent new piece. Pin and Secure Once you've reached a comfortable point to stop your braid, secure it to your scalp with bobby pins. Fishtail It! Braid the remaining piece of hair left from your cascade into a fishtail braid. Accessorize Add a cute bow or flower to hide your bobby pins and give this look some extra hair flair.

Follow this tutorial for a ‘nude’ look with a strategic kick of color that will transform you into a perfect little doll of porcelain! How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch - Lifestyle Let's keep things simple this week. When it comes to personal-care products, we are big believers in streamlining what you use—see "Eight Products You Think You Need But Don't" for a refresher—buying less in general, and getting creative. We have both always loved experimenting in our kitchens and our bathrooms, checking ingredients in products we love, isolating the main ones, and then trying them on their own. Sometimes it works: A favorite hair leave-in contained aloe, for example, so one day we tried aloe alone and found that, lo and behold, it worked just fine on its own. And sometimes it didn't. Simple body scrub Many body scrubs, even the ones that claim to be sugar- or salt-based, actually contain beads made out of polyethylene, which is environmentally deplorable (it all goes down the drain, remember)—to say nothing of the preservatives, fragrance, penetration enhancers, and sulfates that typically bulk up these products. Get Yo’ Nails Did Okay, so we’re only three weeks in to this whole thing and I’m already showing you a tame look after I totally promised some of you that I’d do a newsprint nail tutorial this week. Newsprint we can do next week, but for right now I wanted/needed a manicure by a professional. As I told you in the first “Get Yo’ Nails Did”, it’s important to include real manicures in your nail routine if you’re not comfortable cutting your cuticles and getting into the real work at home. I am not. I’m willing to shell out $20 bucks to have the dirty work done right, but I’m not going to splurge on nail art at the salon most of the time. That’s another thing: Remember that, while you should always be extremely polite to your manicurist, you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for exactly what you want and to tell him/her if it’s not done correctly. For your own mental health, try to avoid those nail salons that feel more like cattle farms. The last thing I’m afraid of (beside death) is a little bit of contrast.
