How to create an icon font (from Adobe Illustrator to SVG in 7 steps) – UNITiD Today we have a pdf to share with you, one that you can print out and hang on a wall (either in your office or your bedroom, you decide). It is a small flow to create SVG files using Adobe Illustrator for using a service like Icomoon to create an icon font to use for websites. Described in this post is the flow for working in Illustrator (any version that supports the ‘Artboards’ function should work fine). So you might wonder “Why make an icon font?” Just 5 situations that you want to use a font rather than a bitmap image: Need the same icon in different sizes? Admittedly icon fonts are not the best solution for all projects, but by using them you can’t really go wrong either. So the 7 steps? Step 1 Open Adobe Illustrator (that was easy) Step 2 Create a new file Step 3 Set up a new artboard, we recommend using a square (anything up 34×34 pixels works) Step 4 Give each icon its own artboard (make sure the artboard sizes match) Step 6 Use ‘save as’ to export the SVG files Download and print

Awesome Web Design of the Week — McDonalds 100 Moments Inspiration October 11, 2013 Famed author Charles Bukowski once said some moments are nice, some moments are nicer, some are even worth writing about which is definitely true most specially in this day and age where sharing moments to the world is just a click away. With that said, McDonald’s UK used technology and some lovely illustrations and created a lovely website with an awesome web design to feature these special moments. McDonalds wanted to create a unique brand experience wherein the infamous fast food chain will be the central factor in these special moments. DIY Sod Sofas: Recline in Real Green-Grass Lawn Loungers On a hot summer day, there is nothing like taking off your shoes or using sandals to expose your toes for a walk through a low garden or lawn. Taking it (literally) to the next level, sod-upholstered couches are a great way to cool down with a book in the backyard. In Black Rock City, Nevada, this author even saw (and sat in) a grass couch set up in the middle of the desert – perhaps not the most sustainable design solution, but it sure was comfortable (and on very hot and dry days: even better when freshly watered). Note: for most arid climates, it might be a bit more eco-friendly to just use something of the astroturf variety (though it sounds a little scratchy, to be honest). Best of all, though, anyone can build a sod sofa for themselves right at home – and perhaps an ottoman, coffee or side table to go with it.
