Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies - American Heritage Cooking I am not a “morning person”. {This is probably a gross understatement.} My brain doesn’t deal well with noise and it certainly doesn’t “get” jokes pre-coffee. It just doesn’t. My husband is the only person who can make me laugh before my morning cup of Joe – other people just get an evil glare. Truthfully, he can make me laugh almost anytime. But shhh don’t tell him, or he’ll abuse it. Why all the random fun facts about Hubs? So I settled for the easily shippable Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies! That flavor is cream cheese! These cookies have an outstanding texture that hits that sweet spot of chewiness. Now I don’t say this often but I would be weary of underbaking these cookies. The only thing that I modified from the original recipe was the type and amount of chocolate chips. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought these cookies were made in Heaven. Wow! We had a nice break of cool weather there for a bit, but now it’s getting hot and humid again and we needed something to cool us off! This icebox-cold, creamy-dreamy, old-fashioned root beer float cake idea came out amazingly spectacular! Ok, with all of that out of the way, I do believe I at least deserve an ounce or two of credit for making both taste a whole lot better and combining both parts into a dessert that you won’t soon forget! So let’s get started! …then fold in the Cool Whip, gently, until all is incorporated. Next is to mix up the cake batter and pour into 2 greased and floured 8″ cake pans…try not to lick the spoon and bowl too much…some of it does have to bake ya know! Though a white cake is used, you’ll notice how beautifully rich the color is after baking due to adding all of the yummy ingredients! I always, right or wrong, cool my cakes top side-down on racks. 10-12 servings

Start to finish, it can be ready in three hours. It bakes in well-buttered Pyrex bowls — no need to preheat a baking vessel for this recipe — and it emerges golden and crisp with a soft, tender crumb When I tell you that, if forced, I had to pick one and only one recipe to share with you that this — my mother’s peasant bread — would be it, I am serious. The reason I say this is simple. And upon tasting homemade bread, people act as if you’re some sort of culinary magician. The Magic of the Peasant Bread So what, you probably are wondering, makes this bread so special when there are so many wonderful bread recipes out there? But unlike the others, this is a no-knead bread that can be started at 4:00pm and turned out onto the dinner table at 7:00pm. Genuinely, I would be proud to serve this bread at a dinner party attended by Jim Lahey, Mark Bittman, Peter Reinhart, Chad Robertson, Jeff Hertzberg and Zoe Francois.

The Navajo planters lived from the Earth as their ancestors had for hundreds of years before. The Navajo traded with the Spanish, Mexican, Pueblos, Apache, Comanche, and even the early American pioneers. After several hours, it was believed a settlement had been agreed upon. This disastrous attempt at peace led to the Long Walks. The government supplies of lard, flour, salt, sugar, baking powder or yeast, and powdered milk were often rancid. To some, Indian Fry Bread is a sacred tradition. 1993 - The American Indian Exposition in Anadarko, Oklahoma hosted its first National Fry Bread Contest. 2005 - South Dakota designated fry bread as the Official State Bread with House Bill Number 1205 on February 25, 2005. Cream Puff Chocolate Eclair Cake This cake is one of those recipes that people have been making for years. Seems like everyone I mention it to has either made it themselves or their grandma or aunt or mom used to make it. It’s also one of those recipes that everyone loves and it never goes to waste. Every crumb and morsel is devoured, it’s just that good. This is one of those desserts that makes a person’s head tilt backwards, their eyes roll back in their head, and moans of pure enjoyment pass through their lips. Now I’m sure the calorie and fat count on this is ridiculous. I actually had never had this cake, nor had I ever heard of it before a few months ago. From there, I started searching. The pastry will bake up rather puffy and random. Spread the chocolate filling all over the pastry, then add the pudding layer on top of that. See how mine overflowed? One final note. Cream Puff Chocolate Eclair Cake Ingredients Pastry: 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter 1 cup water 1 cup unbleached all purpose flour 4 large eggs

Broccoli Cauliflower Salad One of my favorite salads on the blog is the Broccoli Craisin Salad. This recipe is extremely similar and actually is a family recipe of mine as well. However, there are some ingredient changes to that other recipe that change up the flavor and make it its own identity. The vegetables provide a crisp and fresh bite and the insanely delicious dressing coats everything in perfection. Asian Quinoa Meatballs Healthy, nutritious and packed with so much flavor. Perfect as an appetizer or a light dinner! Meatballs don’t get as much credit as they should. They’re incredibly versatile, they’re fun to eat, and they can either work as an appetizer or a main dish. Plus, it’s literally a ball of meat! But for those cutting back on some heavy calories from all that meatball goodness, I have the perfectly lightened up version with quinoa. The quinoa here is a great substitute for some of the meat, and provides an excellent source of protein too – all the while keeping it light on your pants. Best of all, not only are these meatballs lightened up but they’re also baked to absolute tender perfection. The sauce is also packed with tons of flavor – you can even set some aside and toss it on some rice or even a side of quinoa. And if you’re anything like us, you’ll double the batch and serve these on game day, and save the rest for a light dinner the very next night! Ingredients For the sauce Instructions Notes
