Chicago Architectural Club YAC-Young Architects Competitions Architecture Competitions, Events & News The Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence (RBA) celebrates transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to our nation’s cities. Winners offer creative placemaking solutions that transcend the boundaries between architecture, urban design and planning and showcase innovative thinking about American cities. One Gold Medal of $50,000 and four Silver Medals of $10,000 will be awarded.

Competitions Cities are developing into increasingly complex systems. This is giving rise to new scales of risk, making preparedness measures and resilience planning more challenging to formulate and implement. Large urban populations growing directly over major fault lines in Iran, infectious disease epidemics becoming endemic in Hong Kong, flooding threatening the UK’s coastal towns, and China’s unique aging population issue exemplify how 21st century urbanism is becoming defined by our relationship to risk. This is a call for an international and interdisciplinary perspective on risk within the built environment from students, academics, and professionals. Urban Emergencies : Emergent Urbanism is seeking papers and projects in a variety of fields which discuss the implications of emergent risks on the built environment and its inhabitants. More information can be found here.

2012 Core77 Design Awards Categories In addition to the beloved standards, we offer several progressive design categories that reflect the diversity of design practice today. Almost all the categories have Professional and Student entry fields. The exceptions are DIY (no Pro or Student distinction) and Speculative (Professional only). All work must have been released (on the market or published) in 2011 to be eligible for entry. If you are entering in the DIY or Speculative categories, or you are entering a Student project, then your work must have been produced in 2011. All Professional work must be real; if your Professional project is a concept or proposal, enter it into the Speculative category. You can enter your project into more than one category where applicable; see Fees and Rules section for discount information for multiple entries. If you’re having a hard time deciding which category or categories to enter your project in, consult the FAQ or email us and we will advise.

Welcome to Competitions competition Honorable Mention 2014 Skyscraper Competition Henry Smith, Adam Woodward, Paul Attkins United Kingdom A cylindrical matrix of super tall structure centered on an electromagnetic vertical accelerator to eliminate the hydrocarbon dependency of aircraft during takeoff. The radical re-interpretation of the skyscraper format provides hyper density in an organic and adaptive habitat. Commercial air travel is celebrating its centenary in 2014 and over the last 100 years aviation has made an unprecedented impact on the way people can experience an interconnected and relatively open world. The future of Aviation is anticipated to rely on energy dense hydrocarbon fuels to provide the power required to make flight possible. We propose a new methodology of ‘spiral tube’ structure that ensures a habitable floor plate depth and simple pedestrian movement throughout the structure, whilst providing an overall cross-sectional width to overcome stability issues.

Architectural design competition An architectural design competition is a type of competition in which an organization or government body that plans to construct a new building invites architects to submit a design proposal. The winning design is usually chosen by an independent panel of design professionals and stakeholders (such as government and local representatives). This procedure is often used to generate new ideas for the building design, to stimulate public debate, to generate publicity for the project, and to allow emerging designers the opportunity to gain exposure. Winning first prize in a competition is not a guarantee that the project will be completed. History[edit] Architecture competitions have a more than 2,500-year-old history. In 19th century England and Ireland there have been over 2,500 competitions in five decades, with 362 in London alone. Competition types[edit] There are a variety of competition types resulting from the combination of following options:[4] Rules and guidelines[edit]

Competitions The Architectural League organizes a number of competitions each year to nurture excellence, particularly among younger designers, and to explore ideas of topical note. Each year the League runs two prestigious programs for early and mid-career architects and designers: Emerging Voices, an invited competition for North American firms and individuals with distinct design voices and significant bodies of realized work; and the Architectural League Prize, a juried portfolio competition organized around a yearly theme for young architects and designers ten years or less out of school. The Deborah J. Folly is an annual opportunity to design, build, and exhibit a full-scale project around the theme of an architectural folly at Socrates Sculpture Park. The Urban Omnibus writing competition solicits short evocative non-fiction, each year exploring a different topic in relation to urban life. Stay current with these and other competitions below.
