Welcome to Campus Sponsorship | Campus Sponsorship The Dos and Don'ts of Tech Integration PD Of all the initiatives a school can begin, integrating technology may require the most professional development. This is partly because of the equipment, hardware, and software involved and partly because of the shift that a teacher must make in his or her teaching style, technique, and planning process in order to effectively use technology in the classroom. Here are some basic "dos" and "don'ts" for anyone doing tech integration professional development. This approach requires those who provide professional development for teachers to listen to their needs, and to know the school and staff they are either visiting or presenting to. This includes situations when staff present to their colleagues. For technology integration to be successful, a trainer needs to know these variances among the teachers he or she is working with and plan for how teachers will apply what they've learned with you once the session is over. see more see less
A Tool for Building Resilient Cities (Superfluid is a site that enables people to collaborate and exchange favors using their virtual currency, Quids.) Apparently they will be here in NYC on Monday, demo-ing thier product at the NY Tech Meetup, and wanted a cool idea they could bring to life in front of the crowd. So, I emailed them with my idea, something that’s been filed away in my mind as “The Resilient City Project.” the one line description would be something like: a tool that helps local communities share resources and reduce expenses using geolocation, interactive mapping, and visualization To unpack that a bit, let’s start with the components of a resilient city. I found a cool Community Resilience Toolkit that was put together for the San Francisco Bay Area, which breaks down aspects of resilience into these topic areas: foodwaterenergytransportation and housingjobs and economycivic preparedness and social services I was thinking something along the lines of Ushahidi meets sustainability. the original web mash-up

8 Ways Technology Is Improving Education The Education Tech Series is supported by Dell The Power To Do More, where you'll find perspectives, trends and stories that inspire Dell to create technology solutions that work harder for its customers so they can do and achieve more. Don Knezek, the CEO of the International Society for Technology in Education, compares education without technology to the medical profession without technology. “If in 1970 you had knee surgery, you got a huge scar,” he says. “Now, if you have knee surgery you have two little dots.” Technology is helping teachers to expand beyond linear, text-based learning and to engage students who learn best in other ways. Its role in schools has evolved from a contained “computer class” into a versatile learning tool that could change how we demonstrate concepts, assign projects and assess progress. Despite these opportunities, adoption of technology by schools is still anything but ubiquitous. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. These eight technologies are redefining education.
Dreamit Ventures Daniel Donahoo: Horizon Report K-12 Released: The Future of Education Is Mobile With the release of the New Media Consortium's 2011 Horizon Report for K-12 there is no doubt that the future of education is mobile. But, despite what tech-evangelists would have us believe it will not be enough to put mobile devices into children's hands and expect the education system to improve or their learning to suddenly take off. The revolution in technology, and subsequently educational technology, is an opportunity, but not a guarantee. The most recent Horizon Report repeats what it has stated for a few years now: "Digital media literacy continues its rise in importance as a key skill in every discipline and profession." Mobiles are a category that defies long-term definitions. It sounds impressive because it is impressive. How will we support our education system to evolve and adapt to this new technology? We don't have to evolve, and if we don't it will be a great loss. Mobile devices will not improve our children's learning on their own.
