Home - ECO-WHEELS SHOW Toronto The Distillery District Graham Residence by E. Cobb Architects The Graham Residence by E. Cobb Architects seems to have been built as a contemporary statement – an oasis of modern lifestyle featuring a grandiose architecture. Found on Plastolux, the Graham Residence displays a series of cantilevering volumes that merge in a unified design. The intricate architecture needs plenty of time to be understood: from the extensive use of glass in all major parts of the house to the interesting display of interiors.

America's Bicycle Travel Inspiration & Resource - Adventure Cycling Association TERREFORM Lovely Bicycle! ARX - House in Leiria The house is located in a "typical" peripheric urbanization of Pousos, a parish of the municipality of Leiria. Situated east of the city and at high ground, it works as a sort of panoramic belvedere over Leiria. So as to assure for more space and complete access to the faraway view, the owners bought the three lots ahead, over the "cliff". Although each lot allowed for the construction of a basement and two more storeys, usually compacted and isolated in the centre of the lot, this assemblage allowed the possibility of having a lower house, which "embraced" portions of garden space. When we went to the place the first time, the streets surrounding the lot had already been made and, because of the earth displacement necessary for the street making, the land rose suddenly, starting from the sidewalk, like a suggestive construction of a topographic nature. On the surroundings, all the neighbour houses were already built and circled the lot in an "L" shape configuration.

Bicycle Quarterly: Current Issue Back Issues The Spring 2014 Bicycle Quarterly is our largest ever! We tested a new semi-production bike from Mitch Pryor (MAP). This was a perfect excuse for us to embark on a “fast camping trip” to explore two “secret” passes in the Cascade Mountains. The randonneurs of the mid-20th century have been a wonderful inspiration for us. We feature a Camille Daudon that was ridden by one of the women on René Herse’s team. What makes a tire fast? A new feature are our “First Rides,” which bring you a first impression of a new bike before we have the opportunity to do a full test. Those are just some of the highlights of the Spring 2014 Bicycle Quarterly. Click here for a full table of contents. Splitting Space: Dynamic Dual-Material Japanese Residence These architects know how to make an entrance. Walking in below grade, one encounters a cool, rich-textured rock and moss garden enclosed in board-formed concrete. From this emerge a series of strategic trees, drawing the eye upward to a warm, bleached-ply wood box floating above. The narrow entry experience opens up and out, moving from dark to light and expanding out in both plan and section, with private rooms tucked behind solid walls on the lower level and communal spaces spread out on the upper one (and a partial, interstitial, split-level garden zone). UID Architects drew inspiration from the nests of forest-dwelling creatures surrounding the site, creating a likewise indivisible, large-space nest where natural materials constitute walls and ceilings on all sides. Stairs lead to a second floor where the concrete becomes a foundation for wooden framing that wraps up and around, pierced by an array of large windows and skylights.

unorthodox recumbent bicycles Flying Saucer-Shaped Sea Shell House Looks Like Half a UFO A UFO-like facade on one side, the other face of this space ship opens up entirely – a strategic set of approaches to provide privacy on the public side of the building and capture stunning seaward views on the other. Set on the shores of Japan, everything about this resort residence by Takeshi Hirobe bends and guides the eye outward – wooden posts wrap up to become ceiling beams that then arch back down toward the exterior horizon. During the day, indirect skylights and a patio roof overhang balance natural light on all sides to evenly illuminate the interior. At night, spotlights create a play of strange shapes insight and curious patterns through the odd-shaped windows facing outward. The use of naturally-light structural supports works wonderfully in contrast with the dark-brown exterior sides and roof, as well as with the darker interior furniture, furnishings and fixtures – a bit of rustic to offset otherwise modern window shapes, surface materials and appliance choices.
