UPDATED EXCLUSIVE: PRIMER-Director Shane Carruth Prepping UPSTREAM COLOR For November Start EDIT: I’ve gotten more details about the project and I can confirm a few things for absolute fact: • The film is a new thing, unrelated to A Topiary. That project is still active and expected to shoot next year, but Upstream Color is its own thing and said to be a perfect kind of movie if you’re a Shane Carruth fan. • This is definitely a small, under-the-radar affair that looks to be very nearly as controlled and intimate as Primer. There’s no director for whom I’ve crossed my fingers tighter than Shane Carruth over the last few years. Currently going under the title Upstream Color, the film is in the process of casting and prepping for a shoot that will last forty days from early November through the end of January. It’s unclear if this film is based off the same script that Carruth shopped around for some time called A Topiary, which was described by those who read it as an “insane” follow up to his first film.

Théorie du film documentaire (Penser le cinéma documentaire : leçon 3) - TCP - Université de Provence Pour vous donner grosso modo le cheminement que je voudrais suivre, j’ai retenu trois points qui me semblent permettre de rentrer dans le sujet. Premièrement : est-ce que dans l’ensemble de la production audiovisuelle il serait possible de distinguer selon vous ce qui serait du documentaire, et ce qui n’en serait pas. Donc aussi la différence entre documentaire et fiction, entre documentaire et reportage. A partir de là, dire s’il y a différents types de documentaires… Et dernier point, est-ce que vous connaissez dans le milieu universitaire ou autre des voix qui s’écartent de votre manière d’appréhender les choses et qui auraient une autre approche finalement… une autre manière de comprendre le documentaire. Donc, pour commencer, comment on distingue le documentaire de la fiction ? Distinguer le documentaire de ce qui n’est pas le documentaire, c’est une question débattue depuis longtemps, dont on n’a certainement pas fini de débattre et qui est selon moi absolument centrale. Voilà.
