Simone and Building WordPress Themes from Scratch Using Underscores - Over the past few weeks two major releases took place, and now it’s time to talk about them: First, the new free WordPress theme Simone announced my re-entry into the free WordPress theme space. If you’ve been following me for a while you know I’ve released free WordPress themes before and you may also know that I pulled them all last year because I wanted to bring my themes up to current standards. Secondly, my biggest course to date titled WordPress: Building Themes from Scratch Using Underscores was released, and with it subscribers can now learn how to build their own WordPress themes to be standards-based, accessible, responsive, and content-centric. Interconnections So why am I announcing both these releases with one blog post you ask? Now that you know why, let me tell you a bit more more about both the course and Simone. Building Themes from Scratch Using Underscores During pre-development of the course I decided merely building a theme for show wasn’t enough.

HTML Iframes qTranslate [ Download | Installation Guide | FAQ | Support Forum | Contribute & Donate ] Writing multilingual content is already hard enough, why make the plugin even more complicated? I created qTranslate to let WordPress have an easy to use interface for managing a multilingual web site. qTranslate makes creation of multilingual content as easy as working with a single language. One-Click-Switching between the languages – Change the language as easy as switching between Visual and HTMLProfessional human or automated machine translation – Reach more visitors and show that you care about them by showing your entries in their native languageNo more for adding special characters or strings to seperate your multilingual texts! But why don’t you see for yourself if qTranslate is the right thing for you: Screenshots This is how the Editor looks like when qTranslate is active: Managing Languages can be this easy: qTranslate Services in action: Demo Still not convinced?

Make — A free drag and drop WordPress theme Here's the backstory: You want to quit fussing with your website and focus on your business. But first you have to wrangle WordPress and find a theme to set your site apart — without shelling out thousands to hire a developer. “Drag and drop” themes make big promises. But what you need is a page builder that’s easy to get started with, yet robust to scale as your business grows. You need something that lets you sell products, promote services, and engage customers. You want something that delivers clean code — not shortcode — to build any page layout. We heard you. SEM Insights » iFrames are evil. If you must, try this alternative. May 1, 2008 - By Mike Tighe The (really simple) alternative to iFrames I wrote an article on my personal site some time ago and it has gotten consistent traffic over the past 8 months. So I thought I’d expand upon that original article and put my developer hat on for a little while. Why are iFrames bad? They are not web standards compliant.Content in the iFrame will be treated as a separate page by the search engines.iFrames don’t work in all browsers.iFrames are hard to style, my alternative is easier. Now I really don’t want to get into a ‘web standards’ debate with anyone. So what is an iFrame Alternative? The alternative iFrame does not use the “iframe” tag what so ever, instead we are using simple CSS to create a ’scrolling div’ – making it standards compliant. First, you need a DIV placed around the content you want contained in the iframe/scrolling div. <div class="iframe"> <p>Here is some content. Next up is the CSS. The ‘overflow:auto;’ element above is the key. Spread the word:

qTranslate support for WooCommerce Plugin to make qTranslate work with WooCommerce. No more need to duplicate forms for each language. In order to use you need both qTranslate and WooCommerce installed. e.g. if you use "[:en]Test product[:de]Test-Produkt[:lb]Test-Produit" as a category name, qTranslate - with the help of this plugin - will automatically choose the correct language (in this example either English, German or Luxembourgish) when displaying the category name. To report a bug or contribute to the plugin, please create an issue at the project page on GitHub: I won't answer to requests in the support forum. Known issues The plugin only works with "URL Modification Mode" set to "Use Pre-Path Mode" in the qTranslate settings. You need to fill out the WooCommerce-related fields ("Product category base", "Product tag base", "Product attribute base") in the permalink settings.

Free WordPress Themes While our directory is full of fantastic themes, sometimes people want to use something that they know has support behind it, and don’t mind paying for that. The GPL doesn’t say that everything must be zero-cost, just that when you receive the software it must not restrict your freedoms in how you use it. With that in mind, here are a collection of folks who provide GPL themes with extra paid services available around them. Some of them you may pay to access, some of them are membership sites, some may give you the theme for zero-cost and just charge for support. What they all have in common is people behind them who support open source, WordPress, and its GPL license.
