'Tim Burton' versus 'Art in the Streets': Here's the skinny
This summer, two blockbuster exhibitions are dominating the L.A. art scene, both testing the boundary of what constitutes art and both possessing a strong youth appeal. “Tim Burton,” at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through Oct. 31, is an homage to the wild-haired film director of such movies as “Edward Scissorhands” and “Ed Wood.” The show features 700 works from Burton's collections and those of his colleagues. Across town, “Art in the Streets,” at the MOCA Geffen Contemporary through Aug. 8, is a mega-exhibition devoted to the history of graffiti and street art. It features works by noted street artists including Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Space Invader.
Art After Dark
The other night a few of us painted at an event called “Art After Dark” at the Honolulu Museum of Art. The best part was when this little girl fearlessly walked up on the stage and joined in on the action. Photo by Lucky, he painted the skull. More photos below (in reverse order). Ghosts in Bengali culture
In Bengal, ghosts are believed to be the spirit after death of an unsatisfied human being or a soul of a person who dies in unnatural or abnormal circumstances (like murder, suicide or accident). Even it is believed that other animals and creatures can also be turned into ghost after their death. Usually after the death there are some Hindu rituals that are used to follow in Bengal which ends with a holy food offerings (called ‘Pindodaan’) to the spirit of the dead person. This final ritual is done at Pret Pahar (Mountain of Spirits) in Gaya, Bihar. It is believed that if this final ritual remains incomplete the spirit cannot leave this mortal world for heaven and haunts their relatives to complete it. Types of ghosts[edit]
