50 Cool Things to Do in Paris One of the best things about Paris is the sheer number of things there are to see and do—and, of course, eat! Our most recent trip to Paris was our second time to the magical City of Lights. This time around, we did a ton of research prior to our arrival in an effort to discover the best off-the-beaten-path restaurants, activities, shopping and attractions. We also wanted to leave time to re-discover a handful of quintessential Parisian landmarks. We didn’t have time to check everything off our Paris bucket list—with fifty things to do in just six days, we would have driven ourselves crazy if we tried. Everyone in the class knew some French, except for me—I didn’t speak a single word. It was hard to stay interested in a class where I could barely understand anything! It was a bleak situation, but luckily there was a turning point. I finally started paying attention and actually taking an interest in the language—when we started learning French through music in class. Back then, we were learning about emotions. While I don’t remember all the words now (it started out with these two unforgettable phrases, Je suis content, je suis surpris. – I am happy, I am surprised.), I do remember the melody, and after that exercise, words like “content,” “triste” (sad), “surpris” (surprised) and “fâché” (angry) stuck with me after that. From then on, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I became a lifelong fan of the language, and I grew to love all aspects of French, from the linguistic to the cultural aspect of it. 1. 2. 3. 1. 2. 3.

It means, forget it, forget about it, or fugetaboutit when you’re from NYC.
