The iPad as RTI Intervention Toolkit While waiting for the iPad to arrive in my reading intervention classroom, I’ve had a lot of time to think and plan how I will use the device. Ground Rules I don’t want hundreds of apps. I’m looking for a few favorites. I don’t want more drill and kill. The reading intervention programs I teach do their fair share of drilling and killing (to great success) so I don’t need more of the same. - STREET ART UTOPIA More info. New: 10 of the best Apple and Android apps for education in 2013 Last year we presented “New: 10 of the best Apple apps for education in 2012,” which highlighted some of the best apps for iPhones and iPods. However, with new upgrades in touch technology, and the emphasis on Common Core State Standards and school reform in general, we’ve come up with a new list of the best Apple- and Android-based education apps for 2013. This year’s list includes some of the most highly rated apps, both by educators and by parents, and features a range that spans from interactive iBooks to current images of the universe, and from free video software to award-winning STEM curricula. For every app we’ve listed, we’ve included a brief description, device compatibility, suggested use, features, price, and a link to a more in-depth summary with an option to purchase on iTunes or Google Play. Don’t see an app you love on this list? Be sure to let us know—or leave a suggestion in the comment section.

What Technology Does What: An #edtech Chart For Teachers What Technology Does What: The Ultimate #edtech Chart For Teachers by TeachThought Staff Okay, we’ve had this post half-finished for long enough that some of the apps we had here are no longer relevant, so we figured it was probably time to go ahead and publish it even if we couldn’t figure out the best way to format it. This is what we hope will be an ongoing collection of the most effective ways to use technology in the classroom. We’d like to see it crowdsourced, so we may convert it to a public document/wiki-type file at some point. We’ll also try to add to it ourselves as technology suggests itself that we haven’t considered (or just plain forgot about).

Best interactive iPad books of 2011 for kids of all ages - iPhone app recommendations - Lisa Caplan All of these best iPad books for kids use digitization to enhance the reading experience, not divert attention from it. Where there are frills, I prefer to see them focus on education instead of playtime. There are great books for pre-schoolers but also for older kids, a somewhat under-served sector. And, for those aimed at school-aged readers, I primarily looked for educational offerings, since there are iBooks, eBooks and digital comics for fiction fans.

5 Ways to Integrate Technology Into Your Child's Education Jeff Galinovsky is regional manager for Intel’s classmate PC in North America where he focuses on expanding education products as well as building an education ecosystem. You can follow him on Twitter at @ClassmatePCDude. Most of us didn’t have today’s technology options when we were in school, so while parents realize technology has become an integral part of their child's education, they're sometimes finding it difficult to incorporate it into the learning process. It’s much more than choosing the right hardware (desktop, iPad, netbook, etc.). The Epic BYOD Toolchest (51 Tools You Can Use Now) You've got every device under the sun in front of you. Now what apps are you going to use? Here are the apps or app categories that I recommend you test for your school. There are lots of apps, and these are just my opinion based on what I've used with my students or successfully tested. Formative Assessment

Bloomz - Streamline Communication With Parents A few weeks ago my friend Vicki Davis raved to me about how much she liked using Bloomz to communicate with parents. Last week I finally had the time to explore everything Bloomz has to offer and I was able to see why Vicki spoke so highly of it. At its core Bloomz is a messaging service for teachers and it does that well. Dive deeper into what Bloomz offers and you'll see that it is more than just a messaging tool. In Bloomz you can create classes, contact lists, and discussion groups.

presentation creation and the iPad There are so many great apps out there students and teachers can use to create presentations. One of those apps is free (yes.. free) for a limited time - Doodlecast Pro Doodlecast Pro has a clean design with easy to understand icons for students and teachers. The presentation can be paused, continued, and saved through out the process. Students can also open already saved presentations. Being able to select from multiple background images has great potential.
