Good Reasons to Quit Homeschooling There are some times when some homeschooling parents should decide to quit homeschooling. We’re used to cheerleading for homeschooling and supporting homeschoolers through temporary hard times. We’re accustomed to supporting people who have short-term or medium-term misgivings about homeschooling, but their kids are really doing fine, and they’re really doing fine. But if we’re really going to be “Homeschoolers Helping Homeschoolers,” as I’ve been writing about in this series, then we also have to provide support for homeschoolers who are making the decision to quit. What are some good reasons to quit homeschooling? Homeschoolers in these situations should be supported in making decisions not to homeschool. But in general, sometimes the decision not to homeschool is something homeschoolers need to acknowledge as sometimes positive for a family. What can you say? “You feel your kids will be better off in school. “Things have changed for you, and you don’t feel homeschooling is best any more.”

The Myth of the Starving Artist When I was a little kid, my mom sent me to lots of extra-curricular activites (as any Indian/Asian mom does). One of these was art school. After an art session one day, I brought home my drawing of a tree. Other people telling you what to do as if they know better. Backseat parenting drives me crazy. Until I'm the one doing it. I have dear friends who spank their kids, and I always try to talk to them about the science of it. In a Parenting Rut For most of the summer I had been doing great on not yelling, on enjoying my kids and having a good handle on my anger triggers, but after some emotional upsets and long days alone with the kids I was operating on a short fuse.
