Turn a Set of Spreadsheet Cells Into Easy to Read Documents Save As Doc is a free Google Spreadsheets Add-on that enables you to select a series of adjacent cells and turn them into an easy to read Google Document. The Save As Doc Add-on takes just a minute to install. Once installed select the Add-on from your "Add-on's" drop-down menu and click "start." After clicking "start" you can choose a set of cells or all cells to be converted into a Google Document. The document will appear in your Google Drive dashboard (it might take a minute or two to appear if you have selected a large set of cells) where you can then view it, edit it, or download it as a PDF. Applications for Education I love to use Google Forms to create and deliver quizzes to students. Create a Unique Google Forms URL for Each Student One of the presentations I did in the Google Booth at Educause this year was on using concatenate for a spreadsheet. While you do not need to know the word concatenate to do this trick, it is wickedly useful. One of the best tools in the Google Apps suite is Google Forms. The problem is the end user. Unfortunately there are fields you would not typically want to make multiple choice. Google Forms allows you to pre-populate the fields of the Form. If you use the same Google Form repeatedly, such as for a daily warm-up, each student can have a unique URL that automatically pre-populates their SID, First Name, Last Name and Email Address. For peer evaluation where students have to fill in the project title and name of another student, having a unique URL will allow the students to go straight to the rubric and bypass filling out the text fields. When putting on a professional development (PD) conference event the same evaluation form is used for each session, each presenter. Like this:

18 Animations of Classic Literary Works: From Plato and Shakespeare, to Kafka, Hemingway and Gaiman Yesterday we featured Piotr Dumala's 2000 animation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s classic novel, Crime and Punishment, and it reminded us of many other literary works that have been wonderfully re-imagined by animators -- many that we've featured here over the years. Rather than leaving these wondrous works buried in the archives, we're bringing them back and putting them all on display. And what better place to start than with a foundational text -- Plato's Republic. We were tempted to show you a claymation version of the seminal philosophical work (watch here), but we decided to go instead with Orson Welles' 1973 narration of The Cave Allegory, which features the surreal artistic work of Dick Oden. Staying with the Greeks for another moment ... Eight years before Piotr Dumala tackled Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Dumala produced a short animated film based on The Diaries of Franz Kafka. Govt to ensure the speedy repatriation of remaining victims: Ramaphosa:Sunday 16 November 2014 Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.(SABC) Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has stressed that the government will ensure that the remaining bodies of people from South Africa are speedily repatriated from Nigeria. Ramaphosa was speaking at the repatriation ceremony at the Waterkloof Air force base in Pretoria. The remains of 74 South Africans, who died during the collapse of a church in Lagos two months ago, arrived at the base on Sunday morning. A total of 116 people were killed in the tragedy when a Synagogue Church of All Nations building collapsed on September 12 in Lagos. Ramaphosa says the ceremony marks the first step towards the healing of the pain of the victims' families. Presidential Director-General Dr Cassius Lubisi devoted about ten minutes to naming all 85 people who died in the tragedy. Mpumalanga will receive 18 of the mortal remains Meanwhile, the Mpumalanga government has not yet released the provincial plan for the victims of the Nigerian tragedy.
‘Nigerian repatriation’ brings sombre mood to SA:Sunday 16 November 2014 The bodies will be transported from the Waterkloof airforce base to Forensic Pathology Services mortuaries in different provinces.(SABC) Emotions were running high among families of Lagos church victims who were at the Waterkloof air force base to receive the remains of their loved ones. A sombre mood prevails in South Africa after the plane carrying 74 bodies of the 85 South African-based victims arrived from Nigeria on Sunday. Munyadziwa Mbedzi was there to receive the remains of her daughter Mpho, who is one of the people who perished in Lagos. She says they are coping with the situation. “The situation is under control here even though sometimes it becomes too emotional but God is control. Moss Lobakeng, from Meriting in Rustenburg, North West, is in Pretoria for memorial service Sunday afternoon. The government has warned families of health and secondary trauma risk if they view the remains.
Nigeria tragedy: SA awaits arrival of victims remains:Sunday 16 November 2014 Eighty-one South Africans and four foreigners with South African documents were killed when the guesthouse in Lagos collapsed.(SABC) The remains of 74 of the 85 South African-based victims of the Nigerian church tragedy are expected to land in the country on Sunday. The plane carrying the bodies left Lagos for Waterkloof airport in the early hours of Sunday morning. It's arrival will end a harrowing two-month-long wait for the families. The repatriation follows a strong political push that saw Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe meeting with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and Lagos state governor Babatunde Foshola. Radebe's announcement was delayed by some nine hours as identification of the bodies continued, and a team of 87 South African specialists prepared the bodies for repatriation. Family members of the victims have been travelling to Pretoria to be part of an official reception.
