How to Make Kefir | Whole Natural Life Kefir is a cultured milk beverage. It’s similar to yogurt but the taste is a bit different and it’s more of a drink than something you’d eat out of a bowl. Unlike yogurt, kefir contains beneficial yeast as well as good bacteria. If you can tolerate dairy, kefir is a great probiotic food to incorporate into your diet. Kefir is also incredibly easy to make. If you haven’t made kefir before you’ll first need to acquire some milk kefir grains. If you can’t find any free grains locally you can also order grains online. Once you have your grains the kefiring process is quite simple, although it may take you a bit of time to get used to it. Kefir grains (find kefir grains here) Milk (I use raw, organic whole milk but any type of milk will work) Put your kefir grains into a clean glass jar. Add your milk. Cover with a cloth or something breathable to keep fruit flies and other objects out of your jar. Leave the jar out at room temperature for about 24 hours. Check the kefir after 24 hours.

10 things to do with smoked salmon Once a luxury product, smoked salmon is now a mainstay of supermarket chiller counters and UK dinner tables. From thrifty trimmings weaved into scrambled eggs, to versions flavoured with herbs, beetroot, whisky and more, there are products to suit most budgets and tastes. We're big fans of enjoying it in generous slices with a dot of horseradish atop a traditional oatcake, but it's a great ingredient to cook with too - the deeply savoury flavour imparts with stealth, meaning a little goes a very long way.... Our favourite ways with smoked salmon... 1. While high-quality slices of smoked salmon are easily available from supermarkets and fishmongers, you can make a really similar cured variety at home. You'll need the freshest salmon fillet you can buy, then the method is to cure (so strictly speaking it's not smoked) over two days in a brine. to making gravadlax. Homemade Ketchup It’s no secret these days that store bought ketchup is basically just red, corn syrup. But there’s something so nostalgic about it that it’s hard not to have around. After all, what’s a grilled cheese without a side of ketchup? It’s nothing at all, that’s what!!! When I decided it was time to say good-bye to our favorite red condiment, it was a sad day. Because this homemade ketchup is naturally fermented, using basic whey, it contains healthy probiotics—so ‘night and day’ from store-bought ketchup it’s crazy. After the homemade ketchup has fermented for a of couple days, feel free to pour it in to an old ketchup bottle so you can trick your children or spouse! The perfect replacement for your Red-GMO-Corn-Syrup-Sauce (aka Ketchup). Instructions Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth.
