Introduction to Programming in Java French expressions you won't learn at school -- Expressions françaises en Anglais The Wonderful World of Prison Inventions Someone once said that necessity is the mother of all invention. Prison is one of the few places where very few common wants and needs are fulfilled; resources are incredibly limited and ardently regulated. Prisoners, who are not content to only posses what "the man" tells them they can have, are forced to use their critical thinking skills (prison-genuity, anyone?) Cigarette Lighter Source With cigarettes being the go-to currency of choice for prisoners (at least the movies would have you believe this), there wouldn't be much use for a smokable commodity if there was no way to light it. Tattoo Gun While your in prison, why not get a tattoo to commemorate " the time of your life", and there's also no better way of showing your commitment to what ever gang you choose to join while in the clink. Pipe Just because you got thrown in the slammer doesn't mean you might not get the occasional chance to enjoy some weed. Hidden Shiv Razor Comb Rash Knuckles Whip/Cat-o-nine tails Dummy Gun Zip Gun

Materials and Learning Environment, montessori toys, educational materials, prepared environment, homeschooling The Montessori learning environment is much different than the traditional model. Instead of information passing from the teacher to the student, the teacher is skilled in putting the child in touch with the environment, and helping him learn to make intelligent choices and to carry out research in a prepared environment. The teacher then protects the student's concentration from interruption. This fosters a love of lifetime learning in the student. Keep in mind a triangle: the student, the parent or teacher, and the environment. It is the role of the adult to prepare, and continue to prepare, the environment, to link the child to it through well-thought-out introductions to books and materials, projects, and lessons, which nurture the child's exploration and creativity. Just as anyone can use the word "Montessori" to describe schools and training centers, they can and DO use the name to describe toys and materials that often have nothing to do with Montessori. return to top

Brain Pickings | Education 07 APRIL, 2014By: Maria Popova “It’s insulting to imply that only a system of rewards and punishments can keep you a decent human being.” Isaac Asimov was an extraordinary mind and spirit — the author of more than 400 science and science fiction books and a tireless advocate of space exploration, he also took great joy in the humanities (and once annotated Lord Byron’s epic poem “Don Juan”), championed humanism over religion, and celebrated the human spirit itself (he even wrote young Carl Sagan fan mail). Like many of the best science fiction writers, he was as exceptional at predicting the future as he was at illuminating some of the most timeless predicaments of the human condition. In a 1988 interview with Bill Moyers, found in Bill Moyers: A World of Ideas (public library) — the same remarkable tome that gave us philosopher Martha Nussbaum on how to live with our human fragility — Asimov explores several subjects that still stir enormous cultural concern and friction.

Garage Computer Mod - Custom Shop PC Mike Allen's Workshop is an orderly, well-maintained place. Located a few miles from the New Jersey shoreline, the compact garage of PM's senior automotive editor has high shelves stacked with meticulously organized, plainly labeled plastic bins of tools and welding equipment. Occasionally, however, the air in the shop is toxic. Mike is a mechanic and metalworker, and his grinding, routing and drilling sends plumes of metal particulate into the air. This is not so great for the lungs, but positively deadly for electronic equipment. That's a problem, because a workshop these days needs to be computerized. But Mike was tired of his laptops burning out every few months. It's one challenge to keep the computer cool—it's quite another to make it look cool, so I proposed that we build the machine into a Craftsman rolling tool cart. The shop PC was a difficult beast to build, but we think the concept has legs. Some Assembly Required 1. 2. 3. 4. Keeping It Cool
