s “Internet of Things” Camera March 13, 2012 AT 12:11 am Here’s our Arduino based “Internet of Things” camera. It’s a simple remote monitoring using the Eye-Fi wireless SD card and Adafruit Data Logging Shield for Arduino. The Eye-Fi card is a tiny wireless memory card. It stores photos and fits inside a camera just like a regular SD card, but also has built-in WiFi transceiver that can upload images to your computer, smartphone or to various photo-sharing sites.

Setup a DIY Network ‘DropBox’ (aka PirateBox) PirateBox allows you to quickly setup a mobile wireless file sharing network. Basically, it’s a P2P file-sharing device that can turn any space into a temporary, but secure wireless file sharing network. Multiple users within range of the device can connect to the network without any log-in and immediately start downloading or uploading files via their computers or mobile devices. As it is not connected to the internet, the system is secure from outside attacks. Also, users remain anonymous as no user logs are generated. Fireflies in a Jar This is a simple project that uses NE-2 neon bulbs in a group of 'relaxation oscillators.' In essence, an RC circuit charges a capacitor at a rate determined by a resistor and discharges the cap though a neon bulb to start the process over. The effect is a blinking lamp. With a group of these oscillators you get multiple blinking bulbs and the effect is similar to fireflies.

Ruby on Rails Tutorial: Learn Rails by Example book and screencasts by Michael Hartl Michael Hartl Contents Foreword My former company (CD Baby) was one of the first to loudly switch to Ruby on Rails, and then even more loudly switch back to PHP (Google me to read about the drama). This book by Michael Hartl came so highly recommended that I had to try it, and the Ruby on Rails Tutorial is what I used to switch back to Rails again. Though I’ve worked my way through many Rails books, this is the one that finally made me “get” it.

10 Best Practices of Code Commenting & Formatting 15inShare Code commenting and formatting are all about code understandability. Code understandability is very relevant to code maintainability. The First 45 Years Of Star Trek I feel almost childishly uneducated when it comes to Star Trek, and the culture that surrounds this quite amazing series of movies and TV shows. There is no doubt Star Trek has had a huge impact on society, and I think the cast members should feel proud that they have been a part of a world-changing concept that will only grow stronger with time. There are gadgets, technologies and styles all derived from Star Trek, and I am sure no one could disagree with me when I say that Star Trek has had as much of an impact on the world as Star Wars, if not more. It’s once again a question about which side you vote for.
