Video Lesson: Mr. Bean
Follow me on twitter This is a video lesson based around the video “Mr. Bean packs his suitcase” thanks to British Council for bringing it to my attention in their lesson plan on making predictions but I’ve adapted it for use in different ways with different levels. Kids and lower levels The aim of this lesson plan is to practice holiday vocabulary (clothes and items that go in a suitcase) and some basic grammar structure. Multicultural Brain Break: Dance Hits from Around the World
Brain breaks enable students to get ready to learn, improve concentration and attention, and re-focus kids. Taking brain breaks that combine movement and music helps kids- AND TEACHERS!- relax and de-stress. At our school, the kindergarteners start their Friday mornings with a little song and dance- wouldn’t it be great to mix in some music from around the world? You’ve got to have a dream: a free downloadable lesson
A free downloadable lesson, based around a Russian advertising video for shampoo. Despite what is aims to sell, the video is actually quite inspiring, with the story of a girl who succeeds against the odds through pure grit and determination. Students start by watching the video and trying to guess what it is trying to advertise (so don’t tell them!). They then try to reconstruct the story in pairs, watching the video again to check their ideas. The lesson then goes on to focus on a range of linkers used to give reasons or results, make contrasts and show when something happened. Students then work with some vocabulary to describe personality, and then put it all together by writing the story of the video, using the linkers and the vocabulary where appropriate. Diversity/Multi Cultural with Language-Literacy
Updated January 2013 Some languages have more than one word for what English speakers think of as a single entity. Since ice is so important in their lives, the Inuit people reportedly differentiate among the various kinds, from slush ice to black ice. Have children choose something important to them – stickers, ice cream or ???– and MAKE-UP WORDS for different kinds. Nodding the head to signify “yes” is not a universal gesture. Each family has its own folklore, a set of beliefs, myths, tales and practices. Regularly READ STORIES that feature other cultures. MAKE “THE CRAYON BOX”... What books are you and your kids looking forward to reading in the year ahead? Most of the books listed here are recommended either for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary readers since my children fall within those groups and so do the little readers in my core target audience. However, I’ve also included a few middle grade and young adult books for slightly older readers to enjoy as well.
