Arduino Laser Engraver I started this project because I wanted to make something that had mechanical, electrical and software components. After looking around on Instructables, I figured that an Arduino based laser engraver would be an interesting machine to make, and that the machine itself could make interesting things. Laser diodes have also advanced quite a lot in the last few years, allowing reasonably powerful DIY laser engravers to be made without the hassles of laser tubes. This machine can engrave wood and cut paper. I haven't tried other materials yet because there is no fume extraction capability - plastics generally create toxic gases when burnt. A 3D Printed Sundial Displays Time Like a Digital Clock Using a clever mix of 3D printing and a few well-placed shadows, this sundial designed by Mojoptix projects the actual time as if displayed on a digital clock. The plastic component that casts the shadow—called a gnomon— is printed with extremely tiny holes that create pinpoint dots of light in the form of digits as the sun shines through during the day. The sundial does have its limitations. The time only shows in 20 minute increments and it only works from 10am to 4pm during the day. There are two calculation options available, general engineering use or custom use. In general engineering use, calculations can be done by selecting a standard metric thread size in a range from 1.6 mm (M1.6) to 64 mm (M64). Tolerance class can be selected among the alternatives 6e, 6f, 6g and 4h for bolts and 5H, 6H, 7H and 6G for nuts. 6g and 6H are default values and selected class for commercial external threads and internal threads in ISO 965-1:1998. The user shall use 6g for bolts and 6H for nuts unless there is a specific requirement to use other tolerance classes.
