Common Sense Media Workshops | CUE Students grow up in a digital world with the potential for communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creation. Yet schools face challenges concerning behavioral and ethical issues that arise from students’ use of technology, such as cyberbullying, inappropriate sharing, and plagiarism. Digital citizenship is an essential 21st-century skill that guides students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world. Not only is digital citizenship an essential component of any school’s technology program, it’s also necessary for CIPA compliance and schools receiving E-rate funding. 10 Papers Every Programmer Should Read (At Least Twice) I spent most of yesterday afternoon working on a paper I’m co-writing. It was one of those days when the writing came easy. I was moving from topic to topic, but then I realized that I was reaching too far backward – I was explaining things which I shouldn’t have had to explain to the audience I was trying to reach. When I first started writing, one of the pieces of advice that I heard was that you should always imagine that you are writing to a particular person. It gets your juices going – you’re automatically in an explanatory state of mind and you know what you can expect from your audience. I was doing that, but I noticed that I was drifting. The problem I was experiencing is only getting worse. So, I was thinking about this and trying to not to get too glum. We’ve taken an interesting turn in the industry over the past ten years. Here’s the original list. Most are easy to read but some are rough going – they drop off into math after the first few pages.

The 10 iOS Apps You've Never Heard Of (But Should Use) Apps keep this mobile world rolling along, and they play a vital role in helping small business owners stay effective and competitive while on the road. With 1.2 million apps in Apple’s iTunes store, there are plenty of unsung heroes—apps that are worth your while, but most likely have escaped your attention. The following are 10 lesser-known iOS apps that I use regularly, both in my small business as well as for personal reasons. I list them here in alphabetical order. GorillaCam This free camera app combines two great features: (1) a self-timer with countdown notification for selfies or group shots (with your iPhone on a tripod); and (2) a time lapse mode, which lets you take a series of shots one after the other. The Power of Educational Innovation: A Design Thinking approach to Digital Citizenship Design Thinking is a problem solving methodology used by people all over the world to come up with new ideas. Recently there has been a lot of discussion about how to integrate this approach into education. This summer I took two Online courses to learn more about the process. I am very interested in ways to use this approach in my own teaching. This fall I decided to apply this approach to my 7th grade Digital Citizenship unit which focuses on cyberbullying. It worked really well. Here is my lesson plan. Cyberbullying Design Thinking Activity (for 7th graders) Empathize Present the idea “How might we end Cyberbullying?” Define: Students share with the class what they learned about cyberbullying from their research. Ideate: Each group on chart paper brainstorms 100 ideas for solutions in 15 minutes.Post chart paper and all students look at all solutions.Each student has 5 post it notes and votes on the top 5 ideas they see (different color for each group).Groups pick one idea to work on.

This guy has been one of my authority sources for everything related to Bloom's digital taxonomy. Andrew provided a detailed account of how teachers can align the thinking levels of Bloom's original taxonomy with the different digital tools. I have already shared here several examples of web tools and mobile apps that can be used to promote Bloom's digital thinking skills; but today I am sharing with you some wonderful rubrics to help you integrate Bloom's digital taxonomy into your teaching. Come educare cittadini digitali: necessario un framework nazionale Che l’implementazione del digitale nei contesti educativi viaggi ad una diversa velocità rispetto alle capacità e agli strumenti che la scuola ha a disposizione per farsi istituzionalmente carico di una seria e sistematica educazione alle competenze digitali, è questione non di poco conto. La scuola sa bene che, al di là delle categorie in cui sono stati variamente ascritti i propri utenti – nativi digitali, net generation, generazione app, ecc. – bambini e adolescenti si muovono con sufficiente destrezza tecnica tra i numerosi dispositivi, ma non certo con competenza. Ne sono testimonianza i molti episodi con cui la scuola si scontra sempre più spesso, atti di piccola o grande pirateria informatica, uso scorretto dei canali di comunicazione, flaming e cyberbulling nei social.
