Lesson plans, resources, and ideas for countries in Australia and Oceana.
In addition to the printables that can be used for any country study, I make additional sheets for specific countries ~ mapping activities and flag notebooking sheets {and sometimes more!}. We took two weeks to study the continent of Australia. Our first week we focused more on the geography of Australia {Great Barrier Reef, desert, oceans surrounding Australia} as well as the currency, the Australian flag, and learned some Australian slang words {grins}. During our second week we learned about kangaroos and koalas and completed some minit books {usually to make a lapbook} about both animals. If you'd like to see a more detailed blog post with day-by-day plans for our two week study along with links/resources, here is the link: Australia ~ Our Studies Down Under New Zealand was a two-week stop we took in our geography travels after learning about Australia. Learning About New Zealand ~ the Land of Kiwi <a href=" Books we used and loved....

New Zealand NATURE Because of its remote location, New Zealand is rich in unusual wildlife not seen anywhere else in the world. Nearly all the land animals are birds and many of these species have lost the ability to fly. The Maori people and European settlers introduced animals to the islands and the flightless birds had no defense against them. In the last 1,000 years, half of all animals on the islands have become extinct. Deforestation and draining of swamp land is also threatening many remaining species, including the kiwi bird. Fewer than 75,000 wild kiwis remain. Bats are the only land mammals to have made the ocean crossing. Pilot and humpback whales visit the islands on their way to breed, and orcas come to feed on dolphins.

New Zealand New Zealand Colouring Pages Take a trip to New Zealand with us by printing and enjoying our New Zealand colouring pages! You'll find, not surprisingly, a couple of kiwi birds to colour, but we've also got Kiwi landmarks and even Kiwi favourites like the wonderful and hotly supported sport of rugby! We've got a fun hand-drawn map of New Zealand to colour in, which points out some of the icons of the country. For our New Zealand landmark colouring pages we have chosen the Beehive in Wellington (the country's Government building) and the volcanic mountain, One Tree Hill, which has Maori significance. This simple kiwi colouring page is designed to appeal to younger children. Join the dots to reveal the native New Zealand bird, the kiwi. Younger children can trace the outline of this lovely kiwi before colouring it in. Print this fun colouring map of New Zealand's islands with landmarks, animals and birds marked on it.
