Gamification with Edmodo created by Bobby Brian Lewis What is Gamification? Gamification is the use of game thinking and game mechanics in non-game contexts to engage users in solving problems. How I use Gamification with Edmodo Loopy Makes It Easy to Create Animated Simulations Loopy is a free tool for creating your own animated simulations or illustrations of a concept. This free animation tool is designed to showing relationships between two or more parts of a system. It's perfect for showing cause and effect or for showing a workflow system. To create an animation on Loopy you simply have to click on the blank canvas to place a circle that represents the start of a system. Then click on the canvas again to add another element to your system animation. To connect the two (or more) pieces you use a drawing tool to connect them.

Students Need PD, Too Many times teachers, parents, and administrators refer to students as "digital natives" and simply assume they know how to do everything when it comes to technology. While they may be tech savvy and fearless about adopting and exploring new technologies, I find that they too can benefit from strategic professional development. When I started my first year as an educational technologist for Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, I had the pleasure of working with a phenomenal Latin teacher, Natalie Cannon, on a long-term class project. Though this was a project that she had done for years, we met to see how the iPad and specific apps could elevate student content and delivery.

A Fun Tool for Making Word Clouds in Fun Shapes Although their popularity seems to have fallen a bit since their peak a few years ago, word cloud generators still provide students with a nice way to visualize the most frequently used words in a passage of text. Wordle is probably the best known tool for making word clouds, but there are plenty of others that accomplish the same thing. One such tool is WordClouds.com. On WordClouds.com you can create word clouds in a variety of shapes and sizes with a wide array of color schemes. As you can see in the image below, I made my word cloud into the shape of a cat. WordClouds.com works like other word cloud generators in that you simply paste a chunk of text into text editor then let the generator do the work of creating the word cloud.
