10 Commandments of Typography by Fontyou Typography needs moral but mostly aesthetic instructions. Here is a list of 10 Commandments of Typography, rules to follow and tips to know to be a better person, or at least a better graphic designer! 1. There are so many font families with several weights and styles, so why do you persist in bolding, condensing or small-capsing by hand, guys? If you need something bold or light, choose a font with several weights, but please don’t just add an outline, you have 99,9% chance to damage the letter design (counterforms, serifs, endings etc). Same things about widths. If you didn’t know, a real small-cap has a specific design, it’s not only an uppercase which have been reduced. 2. Ideally, combine 2 typefaces, (maximum 3) and enjoy all their styles and variations to create contrasts. For example, choose a serif font and a sans serif font and play with weights, italics, small caps etc. Avoid to combine two fonts of the same family, and always remember that contrast is the key. 3. Too short: 4. 5.
ChicagoGangs.org Website The Folk and People nations were founded in the year 1978 within the correctional facility in . The forming of the Folk and People nation was destined to happen because there were already alliances going on in the streets prior to1978. There were alliances within African American gangs like the Black P Stone alliance, and the Black Gangster Disciple alliance. Or alliances between Vice Lords and Black P Stones and Mickey Cobras. White gangs had alliances such as the White Power Organization (WPO) or the United Fighting Organization (UFO), or the alliance between Simon City Royals and Insane Popes. Latino gangs had the United Latino Organization (ULO) or the Familia Disciple nation (FLDN), or the alliance between Latin Kings Spanish Lords, Insane Unknowns, and Warlords known as “Unknown Players Kings(UPK). The Government still completely halted all funding to the gangs which left the gangs back into a state of poverty by 1971. The People nation was also created in 1978 on the same day.

THE ART OF HAND LETTERING: The End Result Ever since the workshop with Yves I have been thinking a lot abut what he told me as we discussed digital lettering. "The end result is what matters not so much the process". As a result of that experience I decided to post some detailed screenshot images of the process I use to create a lettering piece. This one being a gestural script. First I start with a pencil. I actually wrote the words a dozen times and used the best composition as an underlay. I placed the sketch under a sheet of semi transparent layout paper and lettered the words with a extra fine Condor fountain pen. When I start in Illustrator I fist create single line paths to follow the shapes of the letters in my layout. With vector lines and bezier curves I can fine tune details as the lettering in my Illustrator file is rather large at about 60 inches wide. This is just one way of creating lettering and there are many other methods available.
January | 2014 | In Loco Politico It was briefly before the summer of 2012 when then 16 year-old rapper Chief Keef (birth name Keith Cozart) burst into the “drill” music scene. While being confined to his grandmother’s house under house arrest for previous weapons charges, Sosa (as he’s commonly referred as) release three songs onto his YouTube account: “Bang“, “3hunna“, and “Don’t Like. “Don’t Like” quickly became a hometown banger that attracted the likes of fellow Chicago rapper Kanye West. West, along with GOOD music members Pusha T, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz, made a remix to the hit and included it in the collective’s debut album. Soon, Keef quickly burgeoned into the limelight. He had various record labels courting him as well as having many heavy hitters in the rap industry either be featured on his songs or feature him in theirs. Keef’s raps deal with the dark and violent underbelly of mainstream American society. While many might disagree, Chief Keef is truly a poet of the streets.
Eight Free Photo Sites That Require No Attribution I'm a strong proponent of respecting copyright. I think artists deserve to be paid for the work that they do. I'm also a fan of using Creative Commons photography in my blog, on my visual writing ideas, and in my presentations. However, I have also found that there are times when I want to use attribution-free photography. 1. This site, developed by Ryan McGuire, has a distinctly quirky, weird style. 2. This is my go-to site. 3. Unlike Unsplash, Skitter Photo is organized by categories, which makes it easy to navigate. 4. Jay runs a Tumblr that has a Unsplash-like approach of adding seven new photos every Thursday. 5. Pixabay has a massive database of pictures and it's easy to search. 6. This site is packed full of sleek, modern pictures. 7. The photos on this site tend to be higher contrast with darker colors, giving them an edgier feel. 8. This site has a large variety. Honorable Mentions: Old Book Illustrations: This isn't really a photo site.
