Morning Math Routines Growing Number Line Each day a student adds one post-it to the growing number line. In this case, a kindergarten student wrote the number and posted it. This morning routine supports students as they develop proficiency with the concept of "one more" or "next number" in counting. See Morning Math Routines: Photo Gallery for additional pictures. School Day Count Each day a student adds one straw or craft stick to the ones pocket or cup. School Day Count Poster Calendar Each day a student selects the number card for the day's date and posts it on the calendar. Online Resources: There are great online resources for the classroom calendar routines. Mrs. Coins for the Date Each day a student adds another penny to the coins-to-date.

Daily 5 Math- Paper and Pencil Activities****FREEBIES**** (as always) Hello All, So I have an amazing student teacher this trimester and last week and this week are her take over weeks. Symmetry in Nature By Angel Abney, Andy Tyminski, and Pawel Nazarewicz Mathematics is all around us. As we discover more and more about our environment and our surroundings we see that nature can be described mathematically. This semester in transformational geometry has altered our views, or at least our viewfinders. Go back to the top menu. Want to learn more? Daily 5 Math & a FREEBIE! After jumping head first into Daily 5 for my literacy time at the start of school, I decided I would take the plunge with math as well. Using Daily 5 for my reading and writing time has had it's kinks, but has been the very best thing I could have done to create a classroom culture grounded in literacy and reading. Until I starting using the Daily 5 structure for my math time about two weeks, my math block went a little like this...I would teach a WHOLE GROUP LESSON or activity for about 20-25 minutes. I had previously heard a little about Daily 5 Math from reading on the Sisters' Daily Cafe website, as well as on a few blogs here and there. There is no book about Daily 5 math (yet -- but I hope there will be one soon) and there is not much out there resource-wise for how this looks. I use the schedule above most days, unless I am introducing a brand new unit. Materials are organized each week for easy student access.. Daily 5 Math Rotations in action... Math by Myself is not pictured..

Freedom Quilts Freedom Quilts There is much written about the use of quilts during the Underground Railroad days. Known as the Freedom Quilt patterns, these quilts were displayed as signals to slaves that they should begin to pack for the journey (Wagon Wheel),dress up (Shoofly) and get ready to escape (Tumbling Blocks). Quilts were also used to alert fugitive slaves to food (Bear's Paw), the way north (Star) and danger (Log Cabin). Because quilts were such an American tradition, they could be hung on porches or displayed on fences without attracting attention. Freedom quilts and the history of their use by the Underground Railroad as a secret code for fugitive slaves relates geometry, literature and history, providing an interdisciplinary approach to this important topic. Freedom Quilt Challenge challenges students to use slides, flips and turns to recreate the Flying Geese pattern using a single half white/half black quilt square.

Daily Five Math I started Daily 5 Math stations during our math time. I teach a mini-lesson whole group and the students choose which station they would like to go to. I have only 3 stations open to start off. The stations the students choose from are math by myself, math with someone and number work. Below are pictures of the students at each place. This student is completing math by myself. This student is completing number work. These two students are doing math with someone. This student is doing math by myself. This student is completing patterns at math by myself. This student is working on number work. Math with someone! Student Activities Real Time Data Activities The lesson plans below have been designed for student use in a range of technology and classroom settings. If this is your first time using these materials it is recommended that go through the lessons in order. Teachers: There is a complete Teacher's Guide for these lessons located in the Teacher Guide.

15 Beautiful Examples of Geometry in Art and Design Modern art: it was something I dared not call art at first. Until a few years ago, I’d even rant about it from time to time. Luckily, things have turned around. In the past couple of years, I have developed as a designer. Because of that development, I started looking at art from a designer’s perspective, which made me able to appreciate modern art more and more. {*style: *} : Thanks for reading and viewing, I hope you enjoyed.
