Topology - The Encyclopaedia of Structured Visual Thinking - GPW From GPWiki Sunday 27 of April, 2014 Why Google Earth inspires and the incredible power of the Alchemist Zildjian. By John Caswell Did you know that in the Ottoman Empire, in the year 1623, alchemist Avedis Zildjian first discovered a method of fusing copper, tin and silver to create unique musical instruments. Consider the sheer enormity of Google Earth’s vision. This is the first view you get of Google Earth - I doubt very few if anybody doesn't immediately relate to this particular user interface... Imagine applying this idea to how we might traverse the terrains of business issue and opportunity. Google and Zildjian with their individual ambitions represent a wonderful metaphor for so much of life today. Zildjian is just one of those mercurial images that pervade. Zildjian quite simply represents - in my mind’s eye - my entire life's love of music. At Group Partners we build maps and symbols (icons not the cymbals) as a fundamental part our work.
