CFC - Ozone CFC Destruction of Ozone - Major Cause of Recent Global Warming! Robert A. Ashworth pdf. format for printing The animation illustrates how one chlorine atom in the stratosphere can destroy up to 100,000 ozone molecules. University of Alaska Abstract There has been a lot of discussion about global warming. CFCs have created both unnatural atmospheric cooling and warming based on these facts: CFCs have destroyed ozone in the lower stratosphere/upper troposphere causing these zones in the atmosphere to cool 1.37 oC from 1966 to 1998. Greenhouse Gases Many scientists do not agree with the CO2 global warming models developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Figure 1. What is so disturbing is that measured temperature points added to the IPCC graph do not show the temperature has increased. Figure 2. As shown in Figure 2, over the time from 850 until 1650, the CO2 concentration was relatively the same (~230 ppmv) but the earth's temperature varied from +0.6 to -0.2 o C.

The Answer Pad | The Graphically-Based Student Response and Assessment System Methane and Global Warming Early Warning Signs Before devling into a discussion about the possible important role of methane in global warming, let's first take a look at some early indicators that this process is now happening. Note: On Thursday we will be using the laptops to do an exercise in "weather event" detection to see how difficult it is to find a real event buried in noisy climate data. All About Methane Table 1 Characteristics of some major (climate changing) greenhouse gases The Relative Importance of Methane: Current concentration of CO2 is 366 ppm Current concentration of CH4 is 1.8 ppm and is responsible for 20% of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere (tho that 20% depends on how you model the ratio of IR absorption between CO2 and CH4.) The relative absorption power of methane to carbon dioxide is still uncertain. The higher IR absorption cross section results because CH4 is a physically bigger molecule than CO2 so it preferentially absorbs more long wavelength radiation. Methane Sinks: Details:
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs NIH Senior Health Methane Up Sharply; Ozone Impact Studied A sharp increase in methane gas in the atmosphere since 1978 will probably make the earth warmer and may worsen seasonal losses of protective ozone over Antarctica, scientists say. But the 11 percent increase in methane in the last decade may also slow depletion of the ozone shield over the rest of the planet, said F. Sherwood Rowland and Donald R. Blake, chemists at the University of California at Irvine. Their study, financed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, was published Friday in the journal Science. Methane is the major component of natural gas, but about 80 percent of atmospheric methane comes from decomposition in rice paddies, swamps and the intestines of cows, with some contribution from wood digestion in termites, Mr. Mr. Researchers generally agree that by trapping solar heat like glass in a greenhouse, methane, carbon dioxide and other pollutants are likely to warm the earth's lower atmosphere by a few degrees in the next half century. In 1974, Mr. Mr. Mr.
U.S. Congress (Legislation) Medicare U.S. Constitution Online What makes an entrepreneur – luck or skill? The grand vision and the great idea are overrated, it is the execution that counts here is a saying that it is better to be lucky than good, but is this true for entrepreneurs? I am interested in a related question: why do some entrepreneurs have only one big success and many failures while others succeed again and again? Over my career I have worked for and admired various entrepreneurs. In some ways, of course, there is no substitute for luck, whether in business or any other walk of life. I like to use the analogy of a lottery player who scoops a multi-million-pound jackpot and then writes a book about how he came up with the winning numbers. The harsh truth is that there are similar cases in the business world. It is by being in the right place at the right time that some entrepreneurs get lucky once. This brings us to those entrepreneurs who create wealth time and time again, often in different industries? What about the grand vision and the great idea?
