MoodleTuts Educational Benefits Of Social Networking Sites Uncovered In a first-of-its-kind study, researchers at the University of Minnesota have discovered the educational benefits of social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook. The same study found that low-income students are in many ways just as technologically proficient as their counterparts, going against what results from previous studies have suggested. The study found that, of the students observed, 94 percent used the Internet, 82 percent go online at home and 77 percent had a profile on a social networking site. When asked what they learn from using social networking sites, the students listed technology skills as the top lesson, followed by creativity, being open to new or diverse views and communication skills. Data were collected over six months this year from students, ages 16 to 18, in thirteen urban high schools in the Midwest.

Moodle on a single computer Moodle is designed to deliver content over the internet, or via an institution's intranet. As such, the data is placed on a server . To experiment with Moodle and have a go at creating courses, you need to make part of your personal computer into a server. Using a Moodle Installation package The download package is about 66 MB, so if you're using dial-up at home, download the file somewhere else and get it onto your computer via a flash drive. Create a folder where you want your Moodle Install to be. Next, open your favourite web browser and type in the address . The web browser will take you through the rest of the installation process, which takes about 5 minutes. Suddenly you'll be into Moodle proper. Making Moodle run next time Your Moodle site won't run inside your browser until you turn the server on. Using a WAMP server My first Moodle installation used something called a WAMP server, which is less scary to use than the xampp thing above.
