Darths and Droids
Many of you probably know DM of the Rings. If not, and you are familiar with Lord of the Rings or roleplaying games, you might enjoy it. If you are familiar with both, you will enjoy it. Basically, Shamus Young, the creator, has treated Lord of the Rings as the fantasy campaign of a long-suffering Dungeon Master saddled with all too typical players, and illustrated it in the form of a comic using screencaps from the movies. Brilliant idea, and very well done. And I constantly boggle that (a) nobody did it before, and that (b) nobody has copied him yet.

(Some of this was copied from BB.com, I'm just bringing it to TBN) For those who don't know, the deep web represents a gargantuan part of the internet which is not accessible through regular searches via google or other search engines. Searching on the Internet today can be compared to dragging a net across the surface of the ocean. While a great deal may be caught in the net, there is still a wealth of information that is deep, and therefore, missed. The reason is simple: Most of the Web's information is buried far down on dynamically generated sites, and standard search engines never find it. Here are some facts on The Deep Web:

So, last weekend, the hubby and I and a friend are hiking a mountain. We're about 2 miles high and I'm fighting a little bit of some altitude sickness; ya know a little tunnel vision, little dizziness, no big deal. Anyways, my cell phone rings, to which I answer, "Holy crap I get reception up here?" So after some laughter on the other end and a description of exactly where I'm at, my mom asks me, "Hey whats that title of that movie with the itch in it." My reply is a moment of stunned silence (These always catch me off guard and I should so be used to this by now.)

While we've looked a lot at "taboo avoidance characters", used to mask individual letters in taboo words, we've touched much less often on "cursing characters" (as Ben Zimmer referred to them here; a bit later he referred to them as "obscenicons"), those "cartoon-style swear squiggles" used individually or in clusters -- What the #$*!
