Hovering over the color box shows the HSV, RGB, and #hex values for the color in the tool tip. List of Colors Realtime audio processing in Flash, part 2: The basics | philippseifried.com In this second installment of my series of tutorials on dynamic sound in ActionScript, I’ll discuss the different parts of the sound API and show you how to extract single samples from a sound that’s in memory or coming from the microphone, as well as how to generate simple dynamic audio in real time. As I wrote in part 1, the sound API introduced in Flash Player 10 is essentially just a set of methods and classes that let you access individual samples in a sound. Just as the introduction of the BitmapData class enabled you to manipulate and read pixels in bitmap images and from a webcam’s input, the sound API lets you process sound in memory or coming from microphone input, at the sample level. There are two basic ingredients you need to understand in order to cook up dynamic audio – ByteArrays and SampleDataEvents: ByteArrays ByteArrays are the format in which you’ll be dealing with the raw data. Let’s look at a quick example to show you how this works in practice: SampleDataEvent

about | Color Cop NiftySynth | NiftySystems.nl After decades in which the keyboard and mouse have been the main user input devices in computer science, the use of (multi) touch screens is now becoming more and more ubiquitous. This is a revolutionary development, because touching a graphical user interface directly is a far more immersive activity than using the traditional indirect controller devices. Touch interaction is of particular use with tasks that require skill and a close connection between human and computer, such as creating music. NiftySynth : “a preview of (multi) touch synthesizers to come?” To satisfy both our wish to create a multi touch application and a music synthesizer application at the same time, we have created an interactive multitouch audio experience application built in Actionscript 3 / Flash. tools | color palette creator v1.6.1 This tool was inspired directly by the excellent Creating Color Palettes article by Andy Clarke. It will create 10 shades of the base color, located top-left, at varying degrees of opacity. The top row emulates opacity over a white background, the bottom over black (or colors of your choosing as of v1.4). The opacity values are 100% opaque, 75%, 50%, 25% and 10% on the top row. How to use it: Type a valid six character hexidecimal value in the text box above and hit the "ok" button. Hit the "output hex" button to have the table below the palette display hexidecimal color values. Click the "save base" button to write the current base color to a cookie for safe keeping. As of version 1.6, you can export all of your saved palettes to a PNG image by clicking the "create PNG" button in the "saved" window.
How To Use Color To Enhance Your Designs People are physically, psychologically, and socially influenced by color. Color has been found to have connections to health and it can help set the mood through which your designs are seen. Color communicates meaning and so we need to be conscious of what meaning we’re conveying when we choose to use one color over another. It’s not enough for a designer to use a color simply because he or she likes that color. Color is a tool in the designer’s toolbox much the same as a grid or whitespace and it’s important to understand how to use that tool. Last week we talked about the color theory and how we could represent color and choose different color schemes. Color Meaning The first and perhaps most important thing to understand about the meaning of color is that there is no substantive evidence that support a universal system of color meaning. Even within a single culture individual differences will exist. Red: is the color of fire and blood. Yellow: is the color of the sun. Thanks Cameron!

25 Free Color Tools, Apps and Palette Generators The marvelous thing about color within design is you have the choice from an infinite number of possibilities and combinations. On the flip side of that, having infinite color possibilities makes it very difficult to lock down on the perfect color scheme or palette for your project. This is were the post will hopefully help you. In this post we have collected 25 completely free tools, apps and generators to help you find, manage, and create beautiful and, hopefully, perfect color schemes. Color Scheme Designer Color Scheme Designer is very simple to use app that offers you a complete report on how to use any given color (in various combinations as monochromatic, complementary, triadic, analogous, tetradic). Touchan This application is accompanied by a short video tutorial which will allow you to fully utilize all of its features. What Color is this? in 9 languages I've always wanted to re-do some of the scientific studies of the past, like the World Color Survey. While I don't have plane tickets or time to travel the world, I do have access to CrowdFlower's 4 million contributors to re-test hypotheses about the universality of color-naming. Four years ago, we showed English language speakers random colors and asked for the color names. Four years later, with CrowdFlower contributors now in every country of the world, the experiment becomes much richer. The color-wheel above (thanks D3 and Dawn) contains 4,000 colors (we collected many more, but didn't want to crash everyone's browsers). On the whole, it looks like countries have extremely similar conceptions of color. What do you see in the data? And stay tuned for more blog posts on when big crowd meets old science. The CrowdFlower task seen by contributors in the U.S., France, Germany, and China:

Color First published Mon Dec 1, 1997; substantive revision Thu Oct 11, 2012 Colors are of philosophical interest for a number of reasons. One of the most important reasons is that color raises serious metaphysical issues, concerning the nature both of physical reality and of the mind. Among these issues are questions concerning whether color is part of a mind-independent reality, and what account we can give of experiences of color. These issues have been, and continue to be, inextricably linked with important epistemological and semantic issues. 1. In this section, we consider some central puzzles that arise from trying to fit colors into scientific accounts of the world. 1.1 A Problem with Color The visual world, the world as we see it, is a world populated by colored objects. One of the major problems with color has to do with fitting what we seem to know about colors into what science, particularly physics, tells us about physical bodies and their qualities. 1.3 The Problem of Color Realism
blog Flash The Problem: In Firefox 3.6 for Windows if you embed a Flash Movie with the wmode parameter in the object tag set as default (wmode=”window”) the mouse wheel event is not propagated correctly, instead it is captured automatically by the Flash movie making the scroll wheel not working properly. Common Example (youtube video): If you hover the mouse cursor over the embedded video, the mouse wheel doesn’t scroll any more, instead if you leave the embedded video area the mouse wheel scrolls correctly. The Solution: The only solution I have found so far is setting the wmode parameter in the object tag to “opaque” or “transparent” so the mouse wheel event is propagated correctly, but this solution is far away from ideal.
