Chell in the Rain 'Surface' table: Samsung unveils 40-inch touchscreen that can 'feel' 50 hands at once Updated: 17:10 GMT, 18 November 2011 The multi-touch technology that Apple pioneered with its iPhone is now everywhere in the modern world - but Microsoft is about to pump up the technology to a new level. The next generation of its 'Surface' table is a 40-inch touchscreen that can feel 50 'touches' at once - and can also 'feel' pens, pointers or anything else placed on the table. Screens on gizmos such as iPhone can only feel fingers. The Full HD screen has a high-powered Windows PC built in - and is just four inches thick. The Surface touchscreen is just four inches thick - it can be used in 'table' format, or even hung on the wall like a painting Microsoft's Surface display is a 40-inch multi-touch screen which overcomes the limitations of most touchscreen technology - the fact that the screens are bamboozled if too many people touch at once The screen works by shining light upwards through the screen, which bounces back to a layer of sensors behind the screen.

We know LED lights are versatile enough to be used for practically anything, but LED contact lenses? Really?! Yes, as it turns out, really. University of Washington researchers have figured out how to implant semitransparent red and blue LED lights in contact lenses, for the purpose of receiving and displaying data in sharp visual images and video. Once miniature green LEDs are developed (and they’re in the works, as of now), full color displays will be possible. Lead researcher Babak Parvis comments “You won’t necessarily have to shift your focus to see the image generated by the contact lens,” it would just appear in front of you and your view of the real world will be completely unobstructed when the display is turned off. Ah, the real world. Thanks to Extreme Tech for the quote and Trendhunter for the images.

DIY Outdoor Chaise Lounge Hello summer! I’m sure most of you are also experiencing the heat wave in your area! It’s down right hot in the Lone Star State:) I couldn’t get this project started fast enough! Ahhh!!! Nope, I saved some dough and built my own for $25 thanks to the free plans I got from Ana’s site! Trip to Home Depot for supplies (no kids;) Thank you hubby! I used my battery-powered drill and nailer to assemble the chairs…. oh and Gorilla Glue Wood Glue of course;) Here are some pictures of the steps I took as I went… I used the base of the chaise to assemble the back by aligning each board on top of the other to ensure a good match when the back was attached. Use narrow utility hinges to attach the back to the base. This is the prop for the back rest:) Again, narrow hinges to attach the prop to the back. This is my FAVORITE part! stoppers for the prop on the back rest!!! I finished with Elmer’s Wood Filler and a good sanding using my battery-powered sander and that was it! These were very simple to build.

Heads Up, Hoverboarders: Here Comes Quantum Levitation Few motifs of science fiction cinema have been more appealing to us than the subtle defiance of gravity offered by futuristic hovercraft. So every once in a while we check in to see how humanity is progressing on that front, and whether the promise of hoverboards will be delivered by 2015 as evidenced in Back to the Future Part 2. We’re not quite there yet, but we’re definitely getting off the ground, so to speak. Get ready to hover your brain around the art of quantum levitation. That’s right, quantum. Because of its chemical properties, a superconductor (when brought to low enough temperatures using, say, liquid nitrogen) exhibits this effect, causing the energy from the magnet below to warp around the superconductive object in a way which “locks” it in space. Even more impressive and ripe for practical transportation use: When the superconducting object is placed along a magnetic rail, it exhibits frictionless momentum. Connections:

DIY Full Storage Bed So, it’s spring cleaning time in our household right now! I have a love/hate relationship with spring cleaning. I love getting organized and redecorating but I loathe that you have to create endless messes in the house before the final product! One project I am starting this spring is my 7-year-olds room. His room has always been pretty hodge-podge because he likes to express himself with crayons and stickers on his furniture. I have been bribing him the last year that if he could start taking care of what he has then we would redecorate his room. I’m sure you all remember the Twin Storage Bed that Whit shared with you all! No more quick trips to Home Depot;) I love my little shopping buddy and she looks so excited to be shopping with me;) After building the pieces to the bed I stained it with Minwax Dark Walnut. I let it dry and followed up with a coat of Minwax Polycrylic Clear Gloss. So far so good! Advice/Pointers: ~ If you mess up, nothing is unfixable! ~ Use Gorilla Glue Wood Glue!

Crates for the Storage Bed Hey guys! I am loving this spring weather we’ve been blessed with in Texas this week! Perfect building weather:) I finished the storage bins for the full sized storage bed I build last week. I designed my own plans for these. My goal was to achieve the most amount of storage space with the least out of pocket! I started with two 8ft. sheets of 1/4″ plywood. Here are my measurements: 1/4″ plywood: 12 - 10.5 “x 10.5″ (sides of crates) 12 – 10.5 “x 28″ (bottoms, back and front of side storage crates) 6 – 10.5 x 24 (bottoms, back and side of the end of the bed storage crates) 1 x 10′s: 4 @ 29.5″ (face of side storage crates) 2 @ 25.5″ (face of end of the bed storage crates) These are the 1 x 12 faces. I used Gorilla Glue Wood Glue for every joining piece and followed up with my Ryobi battery-powered nailer. I used 1/4″ plywood to make the entire crate to maximize the storage space. Here is where the 1x 10′s come in. I left it to dry…. Crate 1 down:) After building 5 more crates it was time to stain!
