Re-Thinking CAD Standards: Why there’s never a good time, and never a better time… After several months of blood, sweat and tears, we are very happy to share with you a free download of our CAD Standards, the Electronic File Naming Convention and the Project Folder Organisation we will be using at HDA, with immediate effect. We are a hybrid team of architects, designers and engineers. Even though we strongly believe in this interdisciplinary approach, we understand that it presents difficulties in achieving coherence and clarity in our management systems. The files we are sharing today with our readers are the first outcome of a thorough review and coordination process intended to make our different design tools and activities more coherent. As noted elsewhere on this blog, at HDA we believe in an open culture, that sharing content can be useful, productive and not anti-economic, and therefore offer these free to download in the hope that they may be useful to others.As noted earlier, HDA is a French company. LEM3A Marc Fornes Marc Fornes I Résidence d'avril à juillet 2012 Marc Fornes vit et travaille à New York. Les œuvres de Marc Fornes montrent son intérêt pour la recherche et la création de structures complexes à la fois architectures et sculptures monumentales. Il travaille à partir de formes géométriques simples, qu’il dénature et décompose à l’aide de logiciels de modélisation en 3D, sur lesquels il intervient directement en modifiant leur programmation pour concevoir des formes inédites. Les éléments ainsi créés, sont fabriqués en bois en plastique ou en aluminium, obtenus par découpe assistée par ordinateur, ils sont ensuite assemblés les uns aux autres à l’aide de rivets, suivant un schéma complexe. Chaque élément est unique, leur place est déterminée en fonction de paramètres prédéfinis par la modification du programme informatique développé par Marc Fornes En 2012, Marc Fornes est lauréat TED Fellows (Long Beach en Californie), il a exposé à Art Paris.

Computational design CTM.08­ – Unpredictable Festival for Adventurous Music and Related Visual Arts Generator.x 2.0: Beyond the Screen 24 Jan -­ 2 Feb 2008, Ballhaus Naunynstrasse / [DAM] Berlin Workshop / Exhibition / Performance Generator.x in collaboration with Club Transmediale and [DAM] presents Generator.x 2.0: Beyond the screen, a workshop and exhibition about digital fabrication and generative systems. Digital fabrication (also known as “fabbing”) represents the next step in the digital revolution. After years of virtualization, with machines and atoms being replaced by bits and software, we are coming full circle. For artists and designers working with generative systems, digital fabrication opens the door to a range of new expressions beyond the limits of virtual space. "Beyond the screen" explores these new types of spatial constructs in a hands-on workshop, bringing together artists and designers working with code-based strategies for producing physical form. B-Pavilion: dalla razionalità alla complessità La struttura, che può sembrare del tutto gestuale, è il risultato dell'incontro e della gestione di varie tecniche che disegnano i modelli a partire da presupposti diversi. La piattaforma principale è Rhinoceros, nel quale la prima operazione è stata la costruzione topologica della forma attraverso una rudimentale modellazione numerica. Partire da questa significa avere un totale controllo della struttura che sottende la forma, dando delle basi forti alle future trasformazioni. Il modello rigido che scaturisce può essere ammorbidito attraverso la suddivisione dei poligoni pensando ad una tassellazione triangolare. A questo punto siamo ancora di fronte ad un poliedro abbastanza "spigoloso", per cui si decide di applicargli delle trasformazioni che riescano a mantenere intatta la topologia razionale della mesh. Nell'ordine innestiamo il caos inserendo in una lista tutti gli edges della mesh mutata ed applicando una riduzione che, nel caso specifico, è casuale. mc

Osome Emmerich Architecte et ingénieur, David Georges Emmerich est le principal représentant en France des recherches sur la morphologie structurale, développées par Robert Le Ricolais, Konrad Wachsmann ou Buckminster Fuller. Il explore dès les années 1950 les lois de constitution de la forme architecturale à travers la morphogenèse : les formes sont des « êtres géométriques dans l’espace » qui s’organisent selon des lois propres, à l’instar des structures naturelles. Particulièrement sensible aux questions d’autoconstruction, de croissance et de mobilité, Emmerich entend réconcilier architecture et ingénierie afin d’aboutir à des habitats convertibles, polyfonctionnels, à croissance organique, grâce à la combinaison d’éléments standardisés. Originaire de Hongrie, David Georges Emmerich est déporté à Auschwitz en 1944, puis à Flossenburg, Dachau et Esslinger.

Acting as an intermediary “connector” and “infiltrator” within four main strands of intertwined organization, between levels of: ecology, pedestrian, vehicular, and infrastructure, Bifurcating Ecologies challenges the visceral and abundantly urbanized Hong Kong waterfront that feeds itself through both land and water. Bifurcating Ecologies is composed of modular straps in an urban scale.
