2014 Logo Trends on LogoLounge.com If home is our first place, and work is our second place, then mobile screens have definitely become our third place. Smart phone use has increased from 21 percent in 2010 to more than 63 percent today, and with 83 percent of all Americans online regularly, that percentage of mobile users is bound to keep edging up. The fact that so many people now view the world through a window the size of a business card has spelled an inevitable change in logo design. It used to be that minute favicons had to be kept extremely simple: Now, as a rule, logos must be as well, but that doesn’t mean boring. Designers continue to push back and evolve the meaning of “simple.” That logos have to be scalable has always been understood. Of course, there’s a limit to this flattening out and removal of information. Designers have responded to the mobile screen’s harsh requisites in a variety of ways, many of which are detailed in this year’s Trend Report. As with all things, it’s about balance. sans titre Les deux compères moscovites Dasha & Olya réalisent de somptueux cinémagraphes, cousin germain du GIF animé. Le procédé est simple, lorsque l’une prépare à manger, l’autre photographie et force est de constater que l’alchimie fonctionne tant leurs créations ouvrent l’appétit. Installation Decorates Hotel Room With An Interactive Wooden Skyline It's often the case that you'll see a work of art in an exhibition space and spend a good half hour or so in its company, but it's not often that you'll spend the night with it. But that's what you'll be doing with a new work from French collective Architectural Visual Exciters called SKÖ. The piece sees the group redesigning a guest room at the Au Vieux Panier hotel in Marseille—which features various rooms decorated by different graphic designers and artists—into an immersive and interactive rest space. The rooms are each a veritable work of art themselves -- you may remember this graffiti room, which made quite a spash last year: Mixing high and low tech it uses wood, which hovers over the bed, to project patterns onto so you can lie back and have your very own light show—and don't be too worried about the wood falling on top of you either, it's all part of the experience. The installation paradoxically appears both light and heavy. You can check out a video of the piece below:

Beautifully Endless Looping GIFs Created by a Legally Blind Artist Native American artist George Redhawk creates eerily beautiful gifs even though he's legally blind. With help from computer software, the designer utilizes the art of gif-making to show others how he sees the world as a man who suddenly lost his sight. “It’s an artistic expression of the confusion I go through with my vision loss,” Redhawk told The Creators Project. “Not enough data getting sent to the brain, and it tries to fill in the blanks with false information, so you can’t trust what your eyes or brain are telling you.” The result is an impressive collection of moving art, called The World Through My Eyes. Even though Redhawk doesn't refer to himself as an "artist," that doesn't stop him from creating pieces that look like they belong in a museum. New logo. New site. Still Huge. Evolution. Design is an ongoing fight to solve problems - a perpetual process to address user needs. Huge was founded in the belief that great design makes life easier for people. And the best design is the simplest. Huge has always stood for simplicity in design: “Less, but better.” Over the course of the last 15 years, we’ve worked hard to apply the same approach we take to our client work to our own brand as well.

Logo Process - Tamara Kauffman Interior Design Identity Development This logo process post is for the Tamara Kauffman identity design. A company in design and project management on the refurbishments of domestic properties. Designing kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and office spaces. Initial thoughts I was quite excited when I read the initial brief for this project as Tamara does get involved with certain structural aspects with her job, a new kitchen to be planned, or a new bedroom suite, as well as paint and decoration. The brief The brief seemed pretty simple at first, Tamara indicated she wanted something ‘Classy. It’s always a good idea to get as many visual examples of ‘liked’ and ‘not liked’ logo designs from your client. It’s the easiest way to really get an idea of where there initial interests lie. The other warning with this is to not let their suggestions keep you in a narrow lane of focus, it can be hard once you see their examples to automatically go down that route, but keep in mind it’s just a visual reference for likes and dislikes.

WANKEN - The Art & Design blog of Shelby White Robert Henke 'Lumière' - Cutting the room with vectors and lasers (@robert_henke) As Robert Henke sets of on his tour with the new project Lumière, kicking off in NYC on the 10th May, followed by shows in Helsingor, Montreal (MUTEK/Elektra), London, Riga, Nantes and others, we offer a little preview of what is to come. If you don’t know Robert Henke, he is probably best known for his somewhat free floating role within Ableton and doing splits between creating his own art and software – Ableton Live. Robert also writes and lectures about sound and the creative use of computers, and held teaching positions at the Berlin University of the Arts, the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University, and the Studio National des Arts Contemporains – Le Fresnoy in Lille, France. Lumière – Based on self written software, this work on the edge of concert and site specific installation finds previously unseen beauty and minimalistic elegance in a commonly underrated medium. ECO | raven kwok Created in Dec.2013 ECO was originally shown on December 8th, 2013 at West Hall 211, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. These footage were shot on May 22th, 2014 after I restored the original layout and setup of the installation, since I didn’t have a chance to do any documentary last year. ECO is a series of real-time animations demonstrating multiple bio-inspired interactions between Algorithmic Creatures, as a continuation of integrating simulated behaviors into the project, also as a prior stage for my final master thesis project Algorithmic Menagerie. It was originally a simple but diverse algorithmic creatures community including two species: EDF0 and CB91.
