The Backfire Effect The Misconception: When your beliefs are challenged with facts, you alter your opinions and incorporate the new information into your thinking. The Truth: When your deepest convictions are challenged by contradictory evidence, your beliefs get stronger. Wired, The New York Times, Backyard Poultry Magazine – they all do it. Sometimes, they screw up and get the facts wrong. If you are in the news business and want to maintain your reputation for accuracy, you publish corrections. In 2006, Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler at The University of Michigan and Georgia State University created fake newspaper articles about polarizing political issues. They repeated the experiment with other wedge issues like stem cell research and tax reform, and once again, they found corrections tended to increase the strength of the participants’ misconceptions if those corrections contradicted their ideologies. Once something is added to your collection of beliefs, you protect it from harm. No, probably not.

one hundred push ups - week 4 Week 3 is now comfortably behind you and it's time to start Week 4. Continue by following the same column of exercises as you did last week. At the end of Week 4 it will be time to perform another exhaustion test. You should know what to do by now - simply perform as many good-form push ups as you can comfortably manage before you're unable to perform another one. As per the end of Week 2, stress your system by all means, but please don't go beyond the safety limit. The number of push ups you complete will determine which level of the program you'll start in Week 5. Ok, time for another exhaustion test. 5 Leg Press Variations When it comes to building muscle and shaping your physique, things can get very complicated. It does take a strategic plan, consistency and time to make the changes – but, sometimes, all you need is a simple tweak to change things up. Training Strategy Let’s talk legs. Key Leg Exercises My two favorite exercises for leg development are the squat and the leg press. My Favorite Leg Press Variations 1. This is the “normal” leg press foot position. 2. Moving your feet higher on the leg press will move the emphasis to the hamstrings and glutes. 3. This is a wide stance with your toes pointed outward at about a 45 degree angle. 4. This one always surprises people and is one of my absolute FAVORITE exercises for developing quads! 5. You can do these with any one of the above foot positions (although, I haven’t tried a single-leg frog stance and don’t think my knees would like it) for even more intense leg pressing.

Hip mobility for speed and injury reduction – — Functional Training Ireland personal training sports massage and physiotherapy David Hare and Joey Boland – It’s a problem we see all too often you have tight hips and you suffer from hamstring or quad tears? I used to be plagued by these throughout my career but these simple tips can help you too. Here are some easy to do tips so you can now test and correct poor hip mobility. The Thomas test is a simple test that I use to expose hip tightness in the hips and quads. I often find a difference in hip flexibility between sides in hurlers as they generally lunge with the same leg every time they pick up the ball which can cause tightness over time What is the solution? I like to use the side lying quad stretch. Hip extension is essential for all athletes especially where speed is of paramount importance. Once a client has improved their basic quad stretch we move onto more functional higher level exercises to maintain this hip mobility like a one leg cable row as seen below. Again fixing these issues will help you not just on the hurling pitch but in general life too.

Windows Tools, Help & Guides | Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP 14 Days Paleo Meal Plan It can be hard to always come up with original meal ideas or not to slip off the Paleo wagon from time to time from lack of options or a pantry that still contains some not so good food choices. I believe in making easy for people not only to understand what foods are healthy and what foods are not and why, but also to grasp what it entails to be eating Paleo on a day to day, consistent basis. The best way to represent a typical paleo eating plan is to give out a sample of a week or two worth of food. Remember that you can skip a meal whenever you feel like it and the paleo diet is really not about eating three square meals per day, quite the contrary. If you decide to fast for a day, that’s perfectly fine as well, but I’ve included three meals and a snack every day just to give you enough options to play around with it. Where applicable, I’ve included a link for the recipe as well. The Paleo Weekly Planner Every week we create a meal plan to go along with our Paleo cookbook. Week 1 Week 2

These 10 Podcasts May Just Get You to Stop Listening to Music I used to listen to a lot of music, during my morning commute to work, again on the return home and at other times throughout the day. There is nothing wrong with listening to music, but it wasn’t helping me to become a better business owner. I wasn’t more productive and I wasn’t gaining any knowledge by listening to music for hours each day. One evening I downloaded a podcast that was very appealing to me and instead of my regular music on my journey to the office, I played the podcast. I haven’t turned back since that morning and podcasts have largely replaced my music.
