$5 Mobile Phone Projector The folks at Photojojo just posted a neat low-tech tutorial on how to make a projector for your mobile phone using a shoebox, a paperclip, and a magnifying glass. MacGyver would be proud. They were able to find the magnifying glass at a dollar store for, well, a dollar (so they called it the $1 projector), but let’s just call it $5 before people get up in arms because they can’t find that screaming deal. Basically, you start by cutting a hole out of one side of the shoebox to match your magnifying glass and taping the glass on the box. Then you make an iPhone holder from a paperclip, flip the screen display on your phone (to account for how images passed through a lens get flipped), position your phone inside the box (playing with placement until you get the clearest image), put the box top back on, turn the room lights down low and the brightness on your phone up high, and revel in your resourcefulness. Right-brained? Left-brained? Take the test! A workout for the brain The right and left hemisphere of the brain develop differently and have complementary strengths. The average person only uses around 10% of their brain, as most routine tasks carried out during work or learning predominantly use the left hemisphere. As a result, we don’t make sufficiently balanced use of both hemispheres when thinking and learning. The effects of this have a major impact on every individual and on society as a whole. We’re barely aware of what we could achieve if we were to think and learn using both hemispheres to their full potential – we’re leaving tremendous possibilities and abilities untapped. Brain training: What effect can it have? Truly successful learning can only occur when the two hemispheres of the brain, with their different ways of thinking, are used in full conjunction with each other. What does intelligence have to do with the size of the brain? Gregor Brand writes: “Intelligence is a collective term for cognitive ability. Yes.

7 French Interior Design Rules To Live By - French Style Homes Despite the endless number of guides on how to dress "Like A French Girl," we're more interested in the effortlessly chic way that the French decorate their homes. They've got it down to a science: one part hair-blowing-in-the-breeze casual, one part monarchy-style elegance. For Chic Week, a week-long celebration of our 30th anniversary since hitting French newsstands, we asked some of our favorite French interior design experts how to master the oh-so-stylish home look. 1 Respect The History "Almost all of our projects are exclusively in 17th-, 18th- and 19th-century buildings in the heart of Paris, which translates to a lot of history!" For example, if the firm was working on a classic Haussmannian apartment (built between 1853 and 1870), which generally boast elaborate ceiling moldings, A+B Kasha would choose to avoid adding any recess lighting in order to maintain the character. Photos du journal - The Bizarre world Salma Hayek Debuts a Blonde Bob at Paris Fashion Week We've seen Salma Hayek step out in all different hair hues, including but not limited to: jet-black, honey-brown, and — as some of you might remember from this summer's Cannes Film Festival — pink. Naturally, the multi-hyphenate has slayed all the aforementioned looks, proving she's a color chameleon at heart. In fact, Hayek took to Instagram Sunday, October 1, to show off her hair transformation for Paris Fashion Week, where she sat front row at Altuzarra. "The process. El proceso. It's safe to say Hayek was going for a strong statement look for the runway show, as she completed her transformation with a hot-pink pantsuit and smokey eye that proved impossible to ignore.
