Hand Knitted Things: Channel Island Cast On This cast on method makes an attractive edging for many types of item. It is a lot easier to do than it looks. Try practicing with chunky needles, say 6mm, and some left over chunky yarn. I've opted for starting with a slip knot using the double thickness yarn but you can start with a slip knot using the single thickness yarn. I also found it is better to follow the cast on row with a few rows of knit stitch to stop the edge from "curling". Just experiment and see what works for you...I used this cast on method for some fingerless gloves in the previous post click here to see. Tip - remember to do the "yarn over" in between each stitch. If you would like more detailed instructions, have a look at this very good YouTube video by oftroy, click here. 1.Start with a long tail. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Enjoy!

Artisans: Ajrakh Blockprinters Ajrakh Blockprinting See Ajrakh bedding and shawls and scarves Indigo blue, madder red, and a yellow derived from pomegranate rinds characterise the ajrakh blockprint. The many shades that arise from multiple dips in the dye bath hold potential for infinite combinations. Initially the ajrakh is scoured, beaten, and mordanted to create a receptive foundation free of impurities. The intricate designs demand great focus and commitment. Archeological evidence suggests that for thousands of years Ajrakh artisans were located near the banks of the Indus river. Maiwa actively seeks to support ajrakh artisans who live and work in the Kutch desert.

Ithilien Brocade chart | The Prairie Spinner I finally have the chart finished, in what I hope will be its final version. The original version is about a year and a half old, and this one is actually very similar; the main difference is in the details of the chart itself. That turned out to be more interesting than I expected – trying to figure out how to chart a cable cross, knit though the back loop, different color stitch all in one little square of the graph was not easy! I used Microsoft Excel, and after playing with a few knitting fonts, settled on my favorite, Aire River Knitting Font, for the symbols. Ithilien Brocade chart image Finally, wanting to offer it in pdf format, I tried a couple of free online file conversion tools, including my old standby, Zamzar. Sigh. Time will tell whether or not it is a success. Therefore, I hope there will be a few knitters out there who are willing to test drive the chart and let me know if they have suggestions for improving either the chart itself or the (minimal) instructions. Además, conocimos personalmente a mucha gente nueva: ¡Ah! Pilar & Susana inShare4

THE ART OF LOOKING AKHA | EZISTOCK Blog In the traditional Akha view art is something one wears. They don’t hang their creative work on walls. They put it on their bodies. To an Akha, art is the adornment of everyday being and to wear it is to make a statement at once ethnic, personal and aesthetic. The Akha jacket best exemplifies this attitude. Dressing up in Pamee © Jim Goodman The whole process starts with the harvest of cotton, which has to be deseeded and cleaned first. To spin thread the Akha woman takes a roll of cotton, hooks it onto her simple drop-spindle, gives it a fast turn on her thigh to set it spinning, lets it drop, then draws out the thread. When there’s enough thread ready, it’s time to set up the loom. The loom is a simple contraption, easy to put up and take down, comprising two pairs of erect bamboo poles about six meters apart, connected by bamboo rails, with perhaps a roof overhead, since most weaving days will be quite sunny. january one: Two Great Tastes that Taste Great Together Ever since I started working on seaming my mitered blanket, I’ve been dreaming about the next blanket that I’m going to make with all the leftover Tahki Cotton Classic I have. It has to be something that will utilize A LOT of color – after all – I used 85 different colors in the mitered blanket and I have leftovers of everything, not to mention a bunch of colors that I never used at all! I’ve always known I was going to do a much more structured blanket – at least colorwise. My fantasies have always been about a blanket that is laid out in the ROY G. BIV rainbow and has always had some kind of play on close color tones that sit next to each other. And after seeing a few quilts out in the Internets, both knitted and sewn, I knew that the background palette for all the color would be an off white. At first I was seduced by hexagons – lots and lots and lots of hexagons. Then I saw a gorgeous Log Cabin blocks by Julie and the hexagon blanket was suddenly dead to me! How to knit it though.
