Color Voting Update - 06/11/12 at 6:11 AM MST The Voting is Over, we have a winner! Black - 32, Blue -11, Clear - 9, Red - 2, Gold - 2, Green - 1 Right from the beginning I wanted the B9Creator to be different. Anodized aluminum construction, stainless steel hardware, many thoughtful features that enhance normal operation... all these things set the B9Creator apart from the DIY 3D Printer herd. But when it comes to printing complex, detailed and fragile objects, this is where the B9Creator really shines bright! DIY 3D Printers based upon the Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) concept simply can not match the higher resolution capability of the B9Creator. How about speed? "But how much does that resin cost?" As you will see below, the project development is already well along and is about set for production. So... (Eiffel Tower model printed at 100 micron resolution) I began working on this concept last fall. (Working on resin development) (Trying out different ideas) More images...

A list of DIY high resolution DLP 3D printers Sep.11, 2012 Unlike the Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) technology we usually see on Makerbots and repraps, new generation of hobbyist printer uses light-curing resin and a DLP projector to build 3D objects. These printers use Digital Light Projection technology which produces objects with incredibly fine detail. How does it work? B9Creator Sales The B9Creator™ can build objects as large as belt buckles or as detailed as a tiny filigree ring, with precision typically possible only on machines costing three to five times as much. In addition, because DLP technology exposes an entire build layer at a time, total build times for most objects is normally between two to five times faster than other comparable technologies. Another unique advantage of this system is that the output resin, unlike that of photo-polymers in general, is proven to be directly castable when cured properly. The ring (at right) was created in Rhinoceros and printed on the B9Creator, the first of a three-ring set. This promise ring was created with a gap in the design at the top to accommodate the crown of a Claddaugh-type ring that will be the engagement.

A newbie's guide to UAVs What is an amateur UAV? An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft that has the capability of autonomous flight, without a pilot in control. Amateur UAVs are non-military and non-commercial. They typically fly under “recreational” exceptions to FAA regulations on UAVs, so long as the pilots/programmers keep them within tight limits on altitude and distance. Usually the UAV is controlled manually by Radio Control (RC) at take-off and landing, and switched into GPS-guided autonomous mode only at a safe altitude. (Confused by all the acronyms and unfamiliar terms in UAVs?

Moon Shot by WilliamAAdams Inspired by Bre's Moon crater, I thought, why not the whole moon? This thing is a bump mapped sphere that uses the planetary map data/images from here: johnstonsarchive.net/spaceart/cylmaps.html Specifically, I used this one: johnstonsarchive.net/spaceart/moonbumpmap2.jpg Proxxon MF70 CNC Conversion Kit by ttsalo First, while printing the motor mounts, it's a good idea to do a google search with "mf70 cnc" and read some of the top results - many people have written better illustrated guides than fits here. Take off the handwheels from the mill. For X- and Y-axis this is done by loosening the nut at the far end of the axis (note! the Y-axis has left-handed threads) and pulling the axis out far enough so that you can punch out the holding pin. After this, the wheel comes off. For the Z-axis, loosen the 4 M3 bolts at the top, lift the whole spindle off the machine and loosen the nut under the top cover.
