Flax & twine: Day 1: A Strand of Pearls - a diy ribbon and pearl necklace
Yippee–here it is–Day number 1. I think this necklace actually was the first thing that I made in my jewelry-making frenzy to fill Allie’s Advent Calendar. I love the blue next to the pearls and love the lines the undulating ribbon and smooth pearls make together. This ribbon strand ties in a bow in the back to whatever length your little girl desires. I thought I couldn’t get better than the blue until I made the sample for the easy diy tutorial below – I just ADORE the green. Materials: -1/4″ ribbon -faux pearl beads -needle -embroidery floss/thread Time: Approximately 30 minutes Cut your ribbon to desired length, adding enough length to flow in and out between the pearls. Pierce the ribbon in the middle of its width approximately 9″ along your piece of ribbon. Bend the ribbon around the pearl to judge where you should put the needle next. Put on the next pearl. Continue to alternate between threading a pearl and wrapping the ribbon until you reach your desired length. Finis.

DIY — bracelet made from braided beads | Simply Allis I came across this tutorial from ECAB that demonstrates how to make a braided bead necklace and I knew instantly that was going to be my next project. I have modified the instructions a bit to make a braided bead bracelet. I will show you pictures from my bracelet making process and give brief instructions. These are my supplies. First I strung about 4″ of beads on to my thread. Next I chose to go ahead and cut 2 pieces of chain a little longer than I though I would actually need and attached a jumpring. Make sure all your bead tips are closed around the knot. A closer look. Next, braid the beads. Secure the bead tips at the end of the braid to the other jumpring and chain from earlier. Cut the chain to size then attach a clasp and you are all done! Now go find a new outfit to go with your awesome bracelet. to Pinterest Like this: Like Loading...

crocheted binky clip A friend of mine was teasing me at the park last week that I might need to break down and get a binky clip for Josie because I have been bending over to pick hers up and clean it off like every thirty seconds now that she is much more verbal and into playing with it. I was inspired to create this super simple crochet version - aka the fastest little project ever! Like a fifteen minute baby shower gift here folks and under five big ones too! All you need are some mitten or suspender clips a crochet chain about 18" long a crochet flower I used this easy tutorial HERE and a button. After you make an 18-20" row of chain stitches you want to fasten it off and then fold the long piece in half so that the two end tails are together. Now to fasten the flower your going to want to bring one of the long tails from the chain piece through the center hole of the flower and then up through the shank of the button. Then bring the piece back through the center of the flower.

flax & twine: Day 2: A Bow Bracelet - a diy ribbon jewelry tutorial Ohh, I love this one. It is a beautiful bow, but on a bracelet, how unexpected! I originally made this bow to put on a barrette, but that just seemed too standard, girly hair stuff. So, I put it on my wrist instead and voila! I love it and I know Allie will too. Plus, there is something about this salmon color that you just want to dive in to. Materials: -Apprx 5/8 to 3/4 yard of 3/8″ ribbon (depending on wrist size) -Apprx 18″ of 1 1/2″ wired ribbon -Decorative button -Embroidery thread (or regular thread) Time: 30 minutes Cut your 3/8″ ribbon to desired length. Tie the wired bow. Make two loops. Cross the loops – left over right. Take left loop over the right and through the hole. Now, here’s the trick, its time to flip the bow over. Tighten bow. Trim ends to desired length. Use embroidery thread or floss to sew bow to middle of your length of 3/8″ ribbon. Sew in multiple directions so bow is secure to ribbon. Sew on button. Now its time to sew the closure loop on the other end of the ribbon.

1. 2. 3. Trevlig helg! To melt beads in the oven is one of the funniest things we’ve done for a long time. You’ll need pony beads and baking paper. 1. 2. 3. Have a great weekend! flax & twine: Day 6: A Pearl Cuff - a diy pearl and felt bracelet This is one of my favorites of the entire collection. I don’t know if its because of the robin’s egg blue or just the way the pearls look next to it. Its amazing what you can find at the craft store. This pearl trim came just like this – a strand of connected half-pearls. Easily and quickly stitch the strand on to some 100% wool felt and you’re done. For a menu of all the other glammy, fun, jewelry tutorials, check out this page. Materials: 100% wool felt Corded elastic DMC 25 embroidery floss Flat pearl trim Pearl button Needle Scissors Ruler Time: 30 minutes Cut a half inch strip of felt. I like to sew on the trim first and then measure the wrist later. Start by securing your embroidery floss Sew the trim to the felt, keeping the string of pearls oriented in the middle of the strip. Following that pattern of bottom strand, top strand, consistently will make the back nice to look at too. Sew your stitch in the middle of the connecting strand so it has room to shift with out bunching. Finis!

Double Strand Lace Headband Today’s headband DIY is how to make a Double Strand Headband. This headband is made almost exactly the same way as the Single Lace Headband. All you need is 36 inches of lace or ribbon 1 inch width or narrower. I used 1/2 inch width lace from Joann’s Fabrics. 3 1/2 inches of braided elastic 3/8 inch width or larger. Cut the lace so that you have two strands that are 18 inches long. Lay the end of one length of lace over the other as the picture shows. After you have the ends lined up lay the elastic over the top so they overlap by 3/4 of an inch or so. Then with a sewing machine or by hand stitch across the two layers of lace and the elastic. After you have sewn one side do the same to the other side. I leave mine this way because usually the elastic and stitching are hidden by my hair.

DIY Bobby Pins This year, I'd really like to stay on top of birthday gifts. It seems like I'm always making a last-minute run to the toy store on the way to the birthday party. Not this year. I'm going to stay ahead of the game by making birthday gifts ahead of time so they're ready to go well before the party arrives. I've given these bobby pins to several of my friends' daughters and they're always a hit. I've seen these selling online for as much as $2.50 each. Step 2: Cut circles of fabric to fit the button form. Step 3: Cover the buttons according to package directions. Step 4: Using needle-nose pliers, gently remove the shanks from the buttons. Step 5: Use a small amount of glue to to adhere the buttons to the bobby pins. (Tip: The glue expands as it dries, so take it easy on the glue.) All done. Do you like covering things with fabric? ***UPDATE*** I've received a lot of specific questions about this project.
