Eleven French Films for People Who Hate French Films

Eleven French Films for People Who Hate French Films
A wise man once said, “French films are… too French.” American audiences often have preconceived notions about foreign films… that they’re boring, nonsensical, and hoity-toity(a technical term, you can google it), but French films in particular may come across as more pretentious than a lifetime subscription to McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern. So how do we at Film School Rejects combat this misguided attitude? You won’t find any critically lauded classics from the likes of Jean-Luc Godard or Francois Truffaut here. #11. Americans love revenge and mistaken identity hijinks! #10. Americans love abortion and seafood! #9. Americans love suspense and nudity! #8. 8 Women (8 femmes) Americans love musicals and murder! #7. Americans love gore and masturbation! #6. Americans love… well okay, this one may be too French. #5. Americans love hitmen and Danny Aiello! #4. Americans love having la merde scared out of them! #3. Americans love the Iron Chef! #2. #1.

The Top 10 Web Design Skills You WILL Need! Here are my top 10 web design skills that you WILL need to master to become an effective web designer. If you’re serious about mastering web design and marketing, check out the Pro Web Design Alliance. See how Jordan benefited from the course forum and Google hangout sessions to make his and his clients’ sites better. Your priorities may be different (and my priorities may be different a few months down the line). And I’d add that you don’t need all these skills in any particular measure to make it in web design. #1. I’m convinced the #1 most important skill for a web designer is the ability to use words effectively. If you can craft a series of web pages into a conversation that communicates what you need to communicate, informs, and calls your visitors to take the actions you want, your web site can be a great success, even if it’s graphically plain – hey, even if it’s ugly! Effective wording is of singular importance in several highly important factors in the success of web pages: #2.

What's the Saddest Movie of All Time? What's the saddest movie of all time? Although this may seem like a question that's open for debate, there is actually a scientific answer. According to Smithsonian.com, a scientific study from the University of California at Berkeley has determined that the saddest movie of all time is "The Champ." The 1979 film tells the story of a washed-up boxer who returns to the ring to try and make enough money to retain custody of his son. The study found that the scene in the movie that consistently caused the most people to cry was when "The Champ" dies as his son pleads for him to wake up. Agree? UPDATE: Over 2,000 of you have weighed in with your votes and the top five choices are: 1) "Old Yeller" 2) "Imitation of Life" 3) "Steel Magnolias" 4) "Terms of Endearment" 5) "Sophie's Choice" What do you think of the top five choices?

Futurama timeline Now including all of season 7B. This may be the final significant update of the Futurama timeline. It's been an emotional day for me. Notes The Futurama universe is assumed to be exactly identical to ours except where the show explicitly diverges from reality. Several episodes' dates are formed based on projections which may prove unreliable. The Timeline A question mark indicates that a date is probable, but not known for definite.

6 Things the Film Industry Doesn’t Want You to Know About All this week, Film School Rejects presents a daily dose of our favorite articles from the archive. Originally published in September 2011, Ashe Cantrell pulls back the curtain on the Hollywood conspiracy machine… You may already be a film industry cynic. Maybe you think Hollywood is a barren wasteland, devoid of creativity and originality. Maybe you’re sick of seeing talented people get ignored and vapid hacks get splashed all over the trades. Maybe you’re tired of 3D everything and having to re-buy your movies every five to ten years. I’m not here to dissuade you of any of that. But first, I’d like to give a very huge shout out and thank you to writers C. And now back to the shit storm, already in progress: 6. Here’s a basic example of Hollywood Accounting: A studio makes a movie. Sound ridiculous? Winston Groom, the writer of Forrest Gump was told that the film based on his work wasn’t profitable.

Row Three » Brave New Worldview – 30 Science Fiction Films of the 21st Century A decade into the 21st Century and we have arrived at the future. The promise of Tomorrow. But instead we have looming energy crises, endless middle east conflict and more disappointing, we have no flying cars, Heck, for all the bright and clean future promised in 2001: A Space Odyssey, none of the real companies used as brands in the film even exist anymore. Even moving from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s, nobody makes DeLoreans (although they occasionally sell on Ebay), but cloning and tablet computing (as promised by Star Trek: The Next Generation) have more or less come to pass in this century. It is not the gizmos or the distopian aesthetics, that have brought Science Fiction into the new millennium, but the questions it asks of people or society in a future time or place and how they reflect on our own times. Below are over two dozen science fiction pictures that are worth your time. Code 46 Welcome to a world with borders, very difficult to permeate borders. The Fountain Mr.

The Grammar of TV and Film Zoom. In zooming in the camera does not move; the lens is focussed down from a long-shot to a close-up whilst the picture is still being shown. The subject is magnified, and attention is concentrated on details previously invisible as the shot tightens (contrast tracking). It may be used to surprise the viewer. Following pan. Surveying pan. Tilt. Crab. Tracking (dollying). Hand-held camera. Process shot. Editing Techniques Cut. There is always a reason for a cut, and you should ask yourself what the reason is. Matched cut. continuity of direction; completed action;* a similar centre of attention in the frame; a one-step change of shot size (e.g. long to medium); a change of angle (conventionally at least 30 degrees). *The cut is usually made on an action (for example, a person begins to turn towards a door in one shot; the next shot, taken from the doorway, catches him completing the turn). Jump cut. Motivated cut. Cutting rate. Cutting rhythm. Cross-cut. Cutaway/cutaway shot (CA).
