At the end, I will show a step by step of an ear drawing. Basic Forms The simplified volume of the ear is very much like a megaphone. Just Remember “why?” At first glance the shapes in the ear seem random and confusing. Placement of the Ears The ears lie in the middle third of the face. In Perspective During an up-tilt or down-tilt the placement of the ears is very important since doing it incorrectly can break the illusion of a tilt. Anatomical Information Shading the Complex Forms of the Ear Concha The concha is the bowl-shaped part that attaches the back of the ear to the head. Helix The Helix is a semi-cylindrical form and should be shaded as such. Antihelix The antihelix is the Y shape inside the ear. Tragus and Antitragus Lobule Drawing the Ear 5. Weber/Leifels | interactive images | photography and the world wide web Japanese Village Embarks on Ambitious Zero Waste Campaign A small Japanese village recycles everything under the kitchen sink to reach 2020 zero waste goals I recently came across an amazing article in the UK Guardian that discussed the very big environmental goals of a very tiny village in Japan. The village, known as Kamikatsu , has a population of a little over 2,000 residents, but all of them are involved in Japan’s latest mission to have a zero waste environment by the year 2020. In 2008, the Japanese government created “ Japan’s New Action Plan for Accelerating the Establishment of Sound Material-Cycle Societies Internationally through the 3Rs .” In shorter terms, it was called “Japan’s Plan for Zero Waste.” Under this plan the residents would have to follow the 3Rs: reducing, reusing and recycling every single household waste. The first city to execute the plan would be Kamkatsu. Residents take their recyclables to a nearby waste station, which has a numbered sign and clearly states what type of waste is accepted at the station. digg

Miles Waterhouse - Fine Art style truck painting tutorial Website design and creation by Allan Macdonald. All rights reserved. Contact: info@designertechniques.com Using tonal variations of the background a textured brush is used to form the rear of the truck cab. Having decided that this proposal needs even more attitude, some aggressive graphics are put in which will also contain the headlamps. Taking a flat, textured custom brush more definition is added. Some more volumes are added to the front and a colour overlay is added with pale yellow and blue. The idea for the main volume is quickly applied onto a gradient background. Lamps Made from Sawmill Waste and Tree Branches Embedded with Resin and LEDs For his Brecce collection, Italian designer Marco Stefanelli devised an ingenious way of removing fragments from sawmill scraps, tree branches, and cement fragments, and replacing them with perfectly sculpted resin embedded with LEDs. The resulting lamps retain the organic nature of their original form yet cast a beautifully subdued light. You can see much more on Stefanelli’s blog. (via the awesomer)
