How to Draw Ears | Stan Prokopenkos Blog - StumbleUpon For a video version of this tutorial visit www.proko.com/how-to-draw-ears-anatomy-and-structure In this tutorial I will go over the parts of the ear and suggest an easy way to remember all these complex shapes. At the end, I will show a step by step of an ear drawing. Basic Forms The simplified volume of the ear is very much like a megaphone. This is easier to see from the back, where the concha is like the tubular part and the helix is the lip part of the megaphone. Just Remember “why?” At first glance the shapes in the ear seem random and confusing. Placement of the Ears The ears lie in the middle third of the face. In Perspective During an up-tilt or down-tilt the placement of the ears is very important since doing it incorrectly can break the illusion of a tilt. Anatomical Information Shading the Complex Forms of the Ear Concha The concha is the bowl-shaped part that attaches the back of the ear to the head. Helix The Helix is a semi-cylindrical form and should be shaded as such. Antihelix

Weber/Leifels | interactive images | photography and the world wide web Japanese Village Embarks on Ambitious Zero Waste Campaign A small Japanese village recycles everything under the kitchen sink to reach 2020 zero waste goals I recently came across an amazing article in the UK Guardian that discussed the very big environmental goals of a very tiny village in Japan. The village, known as Kamikatsu , has a population of a little over 2,000 residents, but all of them are involved in Japan’s latest mission to have a zero waste environment by the year 2020. In 2008, the Japanese government created “ Japan’s New Action Plan for Accelerating the Establishment of Sound Material-Cycle Societies Internationally through the 3Rs .” The first city to execute the plan would be Kamkatsu. Residents take their recyclables to a nearby waste station, which has a numbered sign and clearly states what type of waste is accepted at the station. Before taking the waste to a station, residents need to make sure that the waste is clean, dry and ready for recycling. There are recycling bins for lighters and cell phones. digg

Honda Hurricane You’d be hard pressed to guess that this bike started life as a 1987 Honda Hurricane, known less evocatively as the CBR 1000F. This amazing machine took Ian McElroy two years to build, and if you spot a little of the KTM RC8 in there, you’re right—the Austrian superbike was one of the inspirations for McElroy’s stealth-fighter angles and curves. The fenders are hand-crafted from aluminum, and a new subframe reshaped the back end. The bodywork is formed from sheets of aluminum meticulously welded together, and the original gauges have been replaced by a Veypor setup that can also record G-force, 0-60, quarter mile time and lap time as well as speed and RPM. With 130 bhp on tap, the DOHC, 998cc, 16 valve four is not short of go—but K&N filters and a custom-made, less restrictive exhaust system have given the motor an extra kick. Corporate Rebels United Miles Waterhouse - Fine Art style truck painting tutorial Website design and creation by Allan Macdonald. All rights reserved. Contact: info@designertechniques.com Using tonal variations of the background a textured brush is used to form the rear of the truck cab. Since the light source has been decided some is cast onto the ground and onto the wheel detail. Having decided that this proposal needs even more attitude, some aggressive graphics are put in which will also contain the headlamps. Taking a flat, textured custom brush more definition is added. Some more volumes are added to the front and a colour overlay is added with pale yellow and blue. The idea for the main volume is quickly applied onto a gradient background. Lotus Exige Matte Black Final Edition makes stealthy debut - StumbleUpon Another day in Monterey, another debut from Lotus. Yesterday evening, the British sports car maker unveiled the stunning Evora GTE Road Car Concept, and earlier today pulled the wraps off the Exige Matte Black Final Edition, a special model reserved exclusively for the North American market. This isn't the first time that Lotus has introduced a market-specific Exige with a sinister paint scheme. Back in 2009, the company released the Exige Stealth for Japanese buyers and Exige Scura for European customers. While those cars had track-ready features like launch control and variable-slip traction control, the U.S. version is mostly an appearance package with the addition of black Alcantara seats and a slightly upgraded motor on top of the matte finish. You can view our live photos of the Lotus Exige Matte Black Final Edition in the high-res gallery above.

Create Vintage and Grungy Digital Art Work in Photoshop Follow this step by step design process for my recent digital art work, High Voltage. Change the drop down to the Green channel and make adjustments to the tones controlled by this channel, and finally adjust the Blue channel. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map to add an adjustment layer above all the other layers. In this step we are going to add vignette.

Lamps Made from Sawmill Waste and Tree Branches Embedded with Resin and LEDs For his Brecce collection, Italian designer Marco Stefanelli devised an ingenious way of removing fragments from sawmill scraps, tree branches, and cement fragments, and replacing them with perfectly sculpted resin embedded with LEDs. The resulting lamps retain the organic nature of their original form yet cast a beautifully subdued light. You can see much more on Stefanelli’s blog. (via the awesomer)
