Introduction / Fablab, Hackerspace, les lieux de fabrication numérique collaboratif
Depuis quelques années, de nouveaux types d'ateliers collaboratifs émergent. Ils se retrouvent sous différentes appellations selon les points de vue ou la culture : hackerspaces, fablabs, medialabs, techshops. Ces termes ne regroupent cependant pas toujours la même réalité et sont parfois utilisés de façon approximative par le grand public alors qu'ils sont l'objet de discussions pointues chez leurs acteurs. Ainsi, bien que travaillant à des buts différents et différentes méthodes, ils ont tous en commun certaines caractéristiques. D'abord, ce sont des lieux centrés sur les questions techniques, construction d'objets à l'aide de machines inventées ou montées pour l'occasion. Ils disposent donc souvent d'un équipement minimal acquis ou développé sur place constitué de machines à commandes numériques permettant la fabrication d'objet à partir de fichiers informatiques. Fab lab
Un fab lab ou fablab[1] (contraction de l'anglais fabrication laboratory, « laboratoire de fabrication ») est un tiers-lieu de type makerspace[2] cadré par le Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) et la FabFoundation[3] en proposant un inventaire minimal[4] permettant la création des principaux projets fab labs, un ensemble de logiciels et solutions libres et open-sources, les Fab Modules[5], et une charte de gouvernance, la Fab Charter[6]. Pour être identifié en tant que fab lab par la FabFoundation, il faut passer par plusieurs étapes de certification[7]. Les personnes intéressées peuvent également suivre une formation à la Fab Academy, qui donne des cours sur la fabrication numérique et les technologies associées[8]. Les fab labs forment un réseau mondial dynamique de fabrication numérique, composé de plus de 2 000 laboratoires à travers le monde, dont la mission principale est de démocratiser les processus de fabrication manufacturiers[9].
