Manul – the Cat that Time Forgot | The Ark In Space Have you ever wanted to take a trip through time to see what animals looked like millions of years ago? When it comes to cats there is little or no need. This beautiful specimen is a Manul, otherwise known as Pallas’s Cat. About twelve million years ago it was one of the first two modern cats to evolve and it hasn’t changed since. The other species, Martelli’s Cat, is extinct so what you are looking at here is a unique window in to the past of modern cats. Although the Manul is only the size of the domestic cat, reaching about 26 inches in length its appearance makes it appear somewhat larger. The main reason for its survival throughout the ages has been its isolation. Take a close look at the eyes of the Manul. It also has a much shorter face than other cats, which makes its face look flattened. The Manus has not been studied a great deal in the wild, where it is classified as near threatened. Don’t rush to your local pet store, however.

LFS Project Homepage Linux From Scratch (LFS) is a project that provides you with step-by-step instructions for building your own customized Linux system entirely from source. However, there are several benefits of building LFS. Consider the following: LFS teaches people how a Linux system works internally Building LFS teaches you about all that makes Linux tick, how things work together and depend on each other. Building LFS produces a very compact Linux system When you install a regular distribution, you often end up installing a lot of programs that you would probably never use. LFS is extremely flexible Building LFS could be compared to a finished house. What can I do with my LFS system? A by-the-book LFS system is fairly minimal, but is designed to provide a strong base on which you can add any packages you want. Who's who:

Martin A. Lee traces the dramatic social history of marijuana from its origins to its emergence in the 1960s as a defining force in a culture war that has never ceased. Lee describes how the illicit marijuana subculture overcame government opposition and morphed into a dynamic, multibillion-dollar industry. In 1996, California voters approved Proposition 215, legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes. Colorful, illuminating, and at times irreverent, this is a fascinating read for recreational users and patients, students and doctors, musicians and accountants, Baby Boomers and their kids, and anyone who has ever wondered about the secret life of this ubiquitous herb. All commands | commandlinefu.com The Semantic Web: Is the reality finally catching up with the hype? | APILama It’s hard to believe that just 25 years ago the idea of linking together databases so people could access information easily was limited to research universities and prescient sci-fi writers. With the advent of the worldwide web and HTML, databases came to the masses in the form of pages. Pages could be made up of images, text, video and even links with web pages linking to other web pages. We no longer needed a librarian to retrieve facts nor the skillset of a researcher to tap into bodies of knowledge. But with the advent of the broader Internet, information was liberated – and for many businesses and governments that leverage this data, the volume and complexity has spiralled out of control. Almost every business is a publisher and quickly good information was littered with bad information. Authoritative websites might have excellent data quality – but struggled to organise information in an adequate way. But databases only understand facts. Not a researcher?
