One man, 100,000 toothpicks, and 35 years: An incredible kinetic sculpture of San Francisco Thirty five years ago I had yet to be born, but artist Scott Weaver had already begun work on this insanely complex kinetic sculpture, Rolling through the Bay, that he continues to modify and expand even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic symbols of San Francisco, all recreated with a little glue, some toothpicks, and an incredible amount of ingenuity. He admits in the video that there are several toothpick sculptures even larger than his, but none has the unique kinetic components he’s constructed. I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. See the sculpture for yourself at the Tinkering Studio through the end of June. Update: Rolling Through the Bay has been moved to the American Visionary Art Museum through September 2012.

Contemplez la naissance éblouissante des flocons de neige au microscope Les flocons de neige sont formés de magnifiques cristaux d’eau gelée à la beauté fascinante. Ils sont pourtant difficiles à contempler du fait de leur petite taille et de leur durée de vie très courte. Un artiste est parvenu à les filmer en train de se former et nous livre toute la magnificence du phénomène. Nous partageons avec vous ces sublimes images. Vyacheslav Ivanov est un vidéaste russe vivant à Saint-Pétersbourg et spécialisé dans la réalisation de courts métrages en « time lapse », une technique d’accélération d’images. Il a choisi d’utiliser ses talents pour capturer ces magnifiques flocons de neige en formation, non seulement avec sa caméra, mais également avec un microscope. « Les cristaux de glace doivent leur forme hexagonale et symétrique à l’hydrogène présent dans les molécules d’eau. Ces flocons de neige sont tout simplement merveilleux.
La beauté des relations parents / enfants chez les animaux capturés dans de superbes clichés Qu'y a t'il de plus fort et de plus solide que l'amour que portent des parents à leurs enfants ? Probablement rien... Et ce qu'il y a de beau avec l'amour, c'est qu'il est universel. Les humains ne sont donc pas les seuls à savoir se témoigner l'amour qu'ils se portent entre eux. Chez nos amis les animaux, c'est la même chose. Les parents se doivent d'apprendre et d'éduquer leurs enfants à la vie. C'est tout cet amour qui a été magnifiquement capturé sur ces clichés, qui témoignent de toute la bienveillance, la tendresse et la protection dont font preuve ces parents envers leurs progénitures.
