The 52 Most Anticipated Movies of 2013
Just yesterday, a friend of mine posted a message to her unborn child on Facebook, saying that if the little bugger came a week before the due date and ruined her chance to see Star Trek Into Darkness, there would be consequences. That’s dedication. It’s also the kind of excitement we just can’t keep bottled when we look at the upcoming slate of potential greatness lying ahead. Every year, after shoving the last 365 days into every taxonomy possible, we like to look optimistically toward the future — stretching our gaze to the fresh hope of a new cinema season where there is at least one movie a week to look forward to. At least statistically speaking. There’s nothing we can do about that one week in September where all the crap gets unloaded. But more than that, this list of 52 most anticipated movies represents the mindset of Film School Rejects itself. Go grab your calendar. 52. Release: December 25th 51. The Top 12 Movies of 2012 (According to the Internet) Earlier this year, we organized a vote between a bunch of internet film critics (and a handful of filmmakers) to come up with what they would cumulatively exalt as the best movies of all time. It’s not like we had to pull teeth or anything (we left our hammer at home), but compiling lists of the best movies of 2012 was a lot easier. People have just been giving away their opinions over the past few weeks. While that was a large-scale project, this ones admittedly a bit fluffier. I compiled as many Best Of lists as I could from notable online movie outlets, assigned point values for the movies listed (#10 gets 1 point, #1 gets 10 points) and plugged everything into my TI-82. It took a while to compute since I was playing this awesome game where you’re a 3-pixel wide race car and you have to avoid slamming into stuff, but the results were…

The Best Movies of 2013: Richard Brody The year 2013 has been an amazing one for movies, though maybe every year is an amazing year for movies if one is ready to be amazed by movies. It’s also a particularly apt year to make a list of the best films. Making a list is not merely a numerical act but also a polemical one, and the best of this year’s films are polemical in their assertion of the singularity of cinema, as well as of the art form’s opposition to the disposable images of television. The 2013 crop comprises an unplanned, if not accidental, collective declaration of the essence of the cinema, an art of images and sounds that, at their best, don’t exist to tell a story or to tantalize the audience (though they may well do so) but, rather, to reflect a crisis in the life of the filmmaker and the state of the artist’s mind or, even, soul.

Sure, it's three hours long, but The Wolf of Wall Street has wowed audiences stateside and is planning on wooing the UK this weekend. Martin Scorsese's retelling of the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort is being praised as one of the funniest, wittiest and outrageous films of the year and a standout - perhaps career best performance - from Leonardo DiCaprio has pulled in the movie fans. Leonardo DiCaprio [left] in 'The Wolf of Wall Street' Belfort was an infamous broker who turned to a life of fraud and corruption in the late 1980s. However, for the most part this isn't a dark tale of criminality. Not at all.

I hope you enjoy it 30 Best Movies of all Time What makes a movie great? Why do some stand the test of time while others slowly (or rather quickly) lose their value? For some films, it’s the emotion the story invokes. Sometimes an actor’s performance is so unforgettable, it captures our attention. Occasionally a film is so visually stunning, it can’t be forgotten. I put together a collection of the 30 best movies of all time. You Missed It: The 12 Most Unfairly Overlooked Movies Of 2012 Nobody can see all of the movies that come out in a year; there's not even enough time to catch up with all the good ones. We've all had the experience of reading a critic's year-end Top 10 less and slapping our heads, remembering that we heard great things about that one movie but never caught it. Or if you live in a small town, you're constantly frustrated that the movies critics are going crazy for never play anywhere near you, and take months to come out on DVD. But even with theaters crowded with year-end Ocsar hopefuls, there are a ton of great movies out there you may have missed-- and you're not alone. We've picked a crop of 12 movies that, for one reason or another, were totally overlooked by most audiences, but deserve a second glance and a lot of love.

The 15 Best Miramax Films Today, the indie world and the film world at large lost a giant in the field, watching Disney close the doors and turn the lights off on Miramax. As sad a day like today is, and as uncertain as the future is, we can still hold on to the memories. Most of them are now on Blu-ray. Or at least Laser Disc (because we all own one). Without further tears in our eyes, we’d like to remember Miramax for their 15 Best Films. American Hustle Has Nothing To Say (And That's Okay) David O. Russell is more about entertainment than statement, but his films still matter. Simply, Russell may not quite be the auteur we want him to be—the kind with Something to Say. He may just be a comic whirlwind of unsavory impulses and high dudgeon, given (notoriously) to screaming seizures and incapable of shooting a dull scene. One of the few American movies of 2013 that managed to both enthuse critics and magnetize audiences, and the only one of that small company to do so with no computer-generated special effects at all, David O.
