13 Blender tips from the pros Blender may be free, but it isn’t just a tool for hobbyists. The powerful open-source 3D package is now used on a variety of professional projects, from the Blender Foundation’s own ‘open movies’ to illustrations, animated commercials and even visual effects work. While the fundamentals of Blender are well covered by training materials available online, there is little information targeted specifically towards this new group of professional users. To help you get the most from the software, we asked five of the world’s 8leading Blender artists to provide their tips for working quicker and smarter under real-world production conditions. Their tips are presented here in roughly the order they would be used in a real pipeline, beginning with some simple but easily overlooked tricks for modelling and texturing more complex scenes; then moving on to rigging, animation and compositing; plus a couple of tips for asset management on large commercial jobs. 01. 02. 03. 04. 05. 06. 07. 08. 09. 10.

Inspirational 3D illustration from cool Cardiff-based Poked Studio 3D World: How did you break into the industry? Jonathan Ball: It was quite gradual really, I just started making 3D art with Blender and managed to get a few pieces showcased in some widely read blogs and websites. Then commissions starting rolling in. It took a few years before I was able to make a full-time career out of illustration, but the past four to five years have been non-stop work. 3D World: What first inspired you to become a CG artist? JB: I don't think I particularly aimed to get into CG itself, it was just the easiest way I found of creating what I wanted. 3D World: At what point in your life did you make the decision that that's what you were going to do? JB: Quite late really: I was 29 when I decided to study Graphic Design at university and get a degree. When I was made redundant due to the loss of a big banking client, and before I had time to think about what to do next, I started getting lots of illustration commissions, and it hasn't stopped since. New Study: Young Children Surprisingly Perceptive The way they weep and vomit without warning, it's tempting to think that preschoolers are incapable of rational thought. As biologist and emeritus Harvard professor Edward Wilson has written, a prevailing view — one promoted by the famed developmental theorist Jean Piaget — has long been that very young children are "reflex-dominated" and "egocentric": in other words, they see little outside themselves until they reach the age of reason (usually considered to be about 7). But a paper published recently in the journal Psychological Science shows that very young children can be far more attuned to the "desires, preferences, beliefs [and] emotions" of others, including adults, than the Piaget theory assumes. The paper suggests that young children possess a skill many adults assume they lack: they are able to judge when a human behavior is statistically probable versus when it is unusual. The different boxes in the room contained different proportions of the two types of toys.

Creating A Low Poly Ninja Game Character Using Blender: Part 1 In this tutorial you'll learn how to create a low poly ninja character model for games using Blender. The final model will be around 1,200 polys, which is a good amount for iphone or ipad games. Although this tutorial covers building the character in Blender, the workflow is universal and can easily be followed using any other 3D modeling/software package. Additional Files/ Plugins:Download the Reference Materials for this tutorial Step 1 In a new file, select all the objects with the A key and then press Del to delete them. The first step will be to add the background image for reference. Step 2 Now we will start the character with the leg. Step 3 Press 1 on the Numpad to get into the front view. Now align the object from the side view as well. If you want, you can also split the 3D view into two, by dragging the top corner of the 3D window. In the left 3D view, press 3 on the Numpad and set this as the Right view. Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Check the Clipping option. Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 11

Interview with freelance illustrator and concept artist Al-Haitham Jassar Posted on 21. Sep, 2009 by Olson in Interviews Hi Alhaitham thanks for your time. Can we start off with just a quick introduction and a bit about yourself for the readers, please? Hi, I’m really happy for being here. Where do all your ideas and inspirations come from? It all depends on what the project is aimed for. We are very interested to know what type of graphic software’s do you use? Blender, Zbrush, Mudbox, Photoshop and Painter. Do you use any special techniques and tools, such as a tablet, or is it mainly the mouse doing all the work? Tablet all the way! Carnivorous Plant is one of my favorite images from your 3d gallery, can you tell us little more about on how you went to create this image? That illustration was a contest entry held by 3D Total. You are also extremely talented in designing 2d pieces. They start basically the same; I first consult a sketch before starting to work on the real thing. Can you tell us how the idea for your latest project ‘Werewolf’ came about? Coffee……

Is ethnic beauty the new 'it' factor? Some women desire ethnic features to achieve an "exotic" lookLarger bottoms and fuller lips are among the most popular exotic beauty trendsAs America's population changes, the standards of beauty change experts sayCompanies earned over $3 billion between 2005 and 2009 in multicultural beauty market (CNN) -- Women who desire a more "exotic" appearance are looking to the fashion world's growing multi-culturalism for inspiration. There was a time when the Caucasian girl-next-door looks of Christie Brinkley, Cindy Crawford and more recently Kate Moss dominated the fashion pages. Then came new fashion icons: Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce - and then Giselle, Kim Kardashian and Shakira. More voluptuous figures, fuller lips and darker skin, features traditionally associated with women of African, Latin and Asian cultures, are "in." Dr. "Our standards of beauty are changing and ethnic women are at the forefront today," she said. See how Gabourey Sidibe is an Elle covergirl

Aron Ralston Aron Lee Ralston (born October 27, 1975) is an American outdoorsman, engineer and motivational speaker. He survived a canyoneering accident in south-eastern Utah in 2003, during which he amputated his own right forearm with a dull multi-tool in order to extricate himself from a dislodged boulder, underneath which he had been trapped for five days and seven hours. After he freed himself, he had to rappel down a 65 foot (20 m) sheer cliff face to reach safety.[1] Background[edit] Ralston was born on October 27, 1975, in Marion, Ohio. He had the goal of climbing all of Colorado's "fourteeners" — peaks over 14,000 ft high, of which there are 59; solo and during winter (a feat that had never been recorded). In August 2009, Ralston married Jessica Trusty. Accident[edit] On April 26, 2003, Aron Ralston was hiking through Blue John Canyon, in eastern Wayne County, Utah, just south of the Horseshoe Canyon unit of Canyonlands National Park.
