Timepieces - Retro Thing E. Barbour writes, "Former Philips engineer Ronald Dekker is famous for his website full of unusual construction projects. He now has built a digital clock that uses Dekatron (or decatron) tubes as displays." Decatrons feature a ring of cathodes driven by a control voltage. They were first introduced in 1950, and this is the first I've heard of them. They're the forefather of Nixie tubes, which usually contain ten cathodes in the shape of the numbers 0 through 9, and a wire mesh anode.

Steam, Brass and Fzz March 27, 2013 Sculpture Dear friends, My brother and I recently spent a wonderful day with sculptor and all-round eccentric Alan Ross of ArtInSteel. The result of Alan’s patient help was that my welding improved immensely, and he humoured my ambitions when I said I wanted to make a sculpture of a bird in the afternoon. 25 Free Crochet Blanket Patterns I love blankets. Some of my favorite blankets have been big crocheted throws that were given to me as baby gifts. I treasure them. They remind me of the friends and family that spent the time to make them for us. They consist of all sorts of different designs and shapes and each are unique in their own way. I have spotted a few mistakes here and there. Some are completely misshapen but that actually makes me love the blanket more.

T-Shirt Wedding Dress T-Shirt Wedding Dress By Donna Kroiz and Lauren Kroiz Until the late 19th century, brides generally bought the fanciest dress they could afford and then wore it throughout their marriage as an evening gown. With the rise of mass-produced clothing, white became the popular color — maximally impractical, it signified the owner would wear the dress only once. Efficient women often married in white and then dyed their dresses to wear again. In the 21st century, there’s no need to choose between anti-consumerist values and looking cute in white on your wedding day. Learn how to make an adorable, versatile dress using white cotton T-shirts — comfortable, repurposed, and perfect for years of reuse. Hanging Bookshelves « The Runcible Spoon I could be biased, but I think Boyfriend and I might have made the coolest bookshelves in the history of all humankind. Some people look at it, cock their head to the side, and use words like “interesting” to describe it, but I personally think it could probably kick their bookshelves’ ass any day of the week. Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic. And I will admit you may need a certain vibe goin’ on in your house to pull this off properly, but still, I think they’re pretty awesome.

Cutest Book Ever: ZooBorns Internet Craze Moves to Print Warning: The images in this gallery are dangerously, addictively cute. Once you have seen them, you'll want to see more, and more. And more. And you may never finish what you were working on before you saw them. CRAFT: Bleach Art Tees (with Tulip Fabric Dye!) I just came back from an eight-day cruise where we crafted, ate, and had as much fun as possible. I came home, unpacked and was excited to get crafty with some new t-shirts I bought for $8 each. The technical term for this technique is called "discharge dyeing", it's where you use bleach to remove color from fabric, but I like to think of it as "bleach art." I'm going to show you four ways that I used bleach to design some cool summer tees!
