The Re~Cycle Trailer This site is run by Re~Cycle, a charity shipping unwanted bikes to Africa. If you find the following information useful, please help by making a small contribution. We set out to design a robust, low cost, simple trailer made from globally available materials and unwanted bicycle parts. Any moderately technically minded person can construct this trailer. Ideally it should be welded together using a simple arc welder, or it can be assembled using nuts and bolts if no welder is available. It has been designed to carry heavy loads (up to 100kg) and has been refined to interfere as little as possible with the safe and comfortable handling of the bicycle.

bikes making tracks on road to greener travel Folding bikes touted as eco-friendly and stylish way to commuteNumber of folding bike cyclists and manufacturers has grown in recent yearsPortability is key to success of the bikes as is increasing number of cycle paths in cities (CNN) -- From city suburbs to crowded urban centers, small-wheeled folding bicycles are finding a new credibility. Once dismissed as novelty toys or stash-in-the-trunk conveniences, they now are being seen as a way to get everyone on a bike. Yet when it comes to folders -- as they are known -- the difference between a $350 entry-level model and a $3,500 customized version goes far beyond the price tag. "Cheap, unreliable and under-satisfying bikes, folding bikes and electric-assist bikes may get people into and out of bicycle commuting quickly," says Peter Reich, inventor and designer of the Swift Folder bicycle.

Kevin Scott's bike design gets around the theft problem I'm not sure about UK slang, but in America if I tell you "I'm gonna wrap my bike around a pole" that means I'm gonna crash it. But Kevin Scott, an industrial design student at the UK's De Montfort University, means it in a different way. [image credit: Tony Kyriacou/Rex Features] Scott has designed a bicycle that the user wraps around a pole literally. Mark Rehder - Bicycle Utility Trailer July 2007 Update: I've been getting emails and pics from folks that have seen this page and built their own trailers. These have been posted to my blog here and here. October 2005 Update: I have just completed building a larger trailer using the same techniques described below. But this time I took photos as I went along, so you can see those at my Big Trailer page. Welcome to Slowtwitch.com Two weeks ago I wrote my own tips on how to ride safely while on rural roads. I noted my own relative success rate: one crash in 20 years. I also noted the likelihood that, after boasting of my success, I was due for another crash. And—lo!

BikeHacks Reader Matteo recently contacted us and noted that he had turned an old wheel into a ceiling light. His bike deco hack kicked my brain into search mode for another post along the same lines, and before I knew it was in full search mode for hacks we have posted related to decorations made from bike parts. A bunch of time typing and mousing through memory lane resulted in this cumulative post. If you have a bike deco hack you would like to have featured on bikehacks.com let us know. 1. Guest Article: Ann's DIY "Porteur" Rack Our friend Ann Rappaport has been at it again…some of our readers marveled at her homemade kitty-litter bucket panniers, but that’s nothing compared to this incredible feat of DIY engineering!
