Science Education Essentials Biblical Tall Tales: Jonah And Joshua | Theoretical Physics It never ceases to amaze me that an awful lot of people take every word in the Bible literally. I consider that a very poor reflection on the human intellect and the ability to think logically. To believe the Bible as literal truth today is now akin to believing that the Earth is flat and that the Sun goes around it. However, scholars who don’t accept Biblical truth as the undisputed literal word of God, when stumped for an actual alternative physical explanation, retreat to nebulous and wishy-washy concepts and start throwing buzz words like parable, metaphor, archetype, symbolism, ancestral memory and other psychological mumbo-jumbo around – anything that’s an alternative to 1) pure make-believe or 2) a real and unexplainable event. Jonah First: So the story of ‘Jonah and the Whale’ (or large fish) is in all likelihood just another of the numerous Biblical tall tales. Now if I get the story right, God (the E.T.) sends Jonah on an errand. Joshua Second:

The Apocrypha Index Sacred Texts Christianity Index Apocrypha means 'hidden things' in Greek. The Apocryphical books of the Bible fall into two categories: texts which were included in some canonical version of the Bible at some point, and other texts of a Biblical nature which have never been canonical. Deuterocanonical Apocrypha The Deuterocanonical Books of the Bible These are books which are included in some version of the canonical Bible, but which have been excluded at one time or another, for textual or doctrinal issues. Other Apocrypha These are other apocryphal texts which never made it into any official canon, which nevertheless shed light on the Bible and its history. Creation Science Landover Baptist Subject Archives Update: Landover Baptist is proud to announce that Jesus ordered us to rename our 100-year old facility, The Landover Baptist Center for Creation Studies, to The Sarah Palin Center for the Advancement of Creation Science Research. "Mrs. Palin shares our belief that the world was created by Jesus' Daddy, Poppa-God, in six days but has been here for 6,000 years. That alone is enough to ensure she has the vote of every single member of this church and no doubt the vote of every True Christian™ American," said Pastor Deacon Fred. "If you couple all of this with her Evangelical Republican zeal, her savvy new spin on traditional family values, and well kept knees, it is enough to give REAL fundamentalists like me great hope that she will lead America backwards to the wonderful Christian principles upon which our Nation was founded. UPDATE: The Reaction to Karen King’s Gospel Discovery This story is an update of the news broken by Smithsonian magazine on September 18, 2012. Up a cobblestone driveway in the heart of Rome, across from the soaring Tuscan columns of St. Peter’s Square, juts a narrow building watched over by a heavy-lidded statue of Saint Augustine. The Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum was founded in 1970, in the shadow of the Vatican, to renew the teachings of Church fathers. On most days, its glinting marble halls echo with the footsteps of theology students immersing themselves in doctrine, canon law and sacred Scripture. On September 18, however, the building played host to a secular gathering that some would soon see as profane: the International Congress of Coptic Studies, a quadrennial academic conference that this year drew more than 300 scholaars from 27 countries. Karen L. A few minutes before 7 p.m., I took my seat along with nearly three dozen scholars in a fourth-floor classroom adorned with faded maps of the Roman Empire.

Lesson 2 - Are the FOOD LAWS Scientific? f "nothing is unclean of itself" (Rom.14:14), should we consume canned RATTLE SNAKE and FROG'S LEGS? If "every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused" (1 Tim.4:4), shall we eat ESCARGOT (SNAILS) and WHALE BLUBBER? Did Peter's vision (Acts 10) somehow cleanse CAVIAR, CLAM CHOWDER and chocolate covered ANTS? Were the prohibitions on PIGS and RABBITS merely temporary, ceremonial rituals until "the cross of Christ," or are there scientific, health principles involved in avoiding these unsanitary creatures? Which Plants Are Edible? Before we investigate the animal kingdom, the Bible has something to say about which plants are edible. Thus, NUTS, FRUITS, GRAINS, and VEGETABLES are allowed. But since the MUSHROOM is a fungus and reproduces by means of spores, it has no leaves, flowers, or GREEN color! Before going on, note that this LAW concerning GREEN, SEED-BEARING plants existed from the beginning, long before the Old Covenant was ever established. Why Is Blood Forbidden? John S.

Dr. Joel Hoffman: The Bible Isn't The History You Think It Is Some stories in the Bible were meant to be history, others fiction. But modernity has obscured the original distinction between the two kinds of biblical writing, depriving readers of the depth of the text. Perhaps surprisingly, this confusion lies at the heart of the History Channel's miniseries "The Bible," which continues the pattern of blurring history and fiction, and thereby misrepresenting the nature of the Bible to its viewers. One way to understand the difference between history and fiction in the Bible is through the Old Testament's natural division into three parts: The world and its nature (Adam to Terah). The Israelites and their purpose (Abraham to Moses). The Kingdom of Israel and life in Jerusalem (roughly from King David onward). Even a cursory look reveals a clear and significant pattern. In the first section, characters live many hundreds of years, and in the second, well into their second century.
