24 in 24 Categories: 24 in 24 Posted on Monday, April 27, 2009 by Tim Fehlman Time for another one of my ever so popular 24 in 24 sessions. This time, we are going to be looking at open source media systems. This is going to be a mix of media centers , media servers , and HTPC setups. I’ve done a lot of digging and I think that I will be covering pretty much every single major package out there. Just what are these things? So sit back and relax. If you found this post useful, why don't you buy me a cup of coffee to show your gratitude?

So You Wanna Change Your Default Browser In Vista? I have been using Vista Beta 2 for a while now and there is one thing that continues to frustrate me. Microsoft has designed the User Account Control (UAC) to work so perfectly that it will be difficult for the average person to switch the default browser. After installing Vista you can open up the Control Panel and the first thing that I do is switch to the classic view. Opening up the Default Programs module and looking at the setting for Internet Explorer reveals that it is set to the default browser: Not surprising, right? I continued on with my browsing and when I get done I closed Firefox. Then I confirm that I authorized this action: Finally I agree to set Firefox as my default browser, again! Is this really a great security feature or just a headache?

Using the Hell out of your Digital Camera Evidence for the Defense Occasionally, I find myself in a less-than-lawful situation. For example, if the marked crosswalk looks dangerous or flooded, and I cross the street somewhere else, I do so with an eye towards my legal defense. To ease my mind, I will often take a photo of the offending situation, to show as evidence in the supremely unlikely circumstance that I end up in court. Other situations which warrant a little documentation: 1. Some people would argue that just taking such a photo would prove that I was doing something I knew was illegal, and sometimes they would be right, but if you need to defend your justifiably illegal actions, it is good to have pictures to compliment your story.

Back to Basics: Your Task List - Stepcase Lifehack Everyone makes a task list (or “todo list”) at least now and again. Usually, we wait until we’re overwhelmed with stuff to do, and then we’ll sit down and list everything we need to get done in the next day or two. Then, one by one, we go through the items on our list, do them, and cross them off. We do this because it feels better when we do. Until the next time we’re overwhelmed. We make todo lists when we’re under pressure because they work. Your brain is for doing Todo lists are important because every unfinished task you’ve made a commitment to causes stress. That’s why it feels so good to write that task list – your brain lets out a sigh of relief, knowing that now, at least, it doesn’t have to try to keep track of all that stuff. Of Paper and Processors Your todo list doesn’t have to be anything fancy. I have a section of the same notebook I use for capture that I use to list tasks; it’s marked with a Post-it Tab Divider.
