Got Green? I'm really feeling the freshness of green lately. Plus, it rhymes with serene. Bonus. Space Saving Tiny Apartment, New York This tiny but highly sophisticated studio apartment in the East Village of NYC has made us very proud, thanks to JPDA. Not only was it built as a super efficient multi-functional unit but with the use of detailed mill work, the storage capacity was very cleverly executed and resulted in a super stylish studio with a decent amount of floor space. Shouldn’t all NYC dwellers aim to live like this? You decide… A schematic rendering demonstrates a realistic plan for this tiny apartment. Although we’re not too sure how realistic that cubbyhole at the crown of the loft is in a NYC apartment building, the rest of the space makes perfect sense. This tiny living/work space is beautifully masked with natural light and looks so inviting! This mezzanine bedroom is constructed with beautiful teak wood that houses hidden storage compartments… What great use of typically neglected storage space…. Well lit and highly efficient modern kitchen has beautiful appliances and plenty of counter space.

You can find all kinds of stories here, such as beautiful pieces of furniture, ideas for decorating your home, architecture news, home gadgets, tips and tricks for improving your home, and much more. Here is a collection of the best bookshelves we posted during the past year. The Equation Bookshelf, designed by Marcos Breder, uses the simple idea of organizing objects in a certain order. These Folding Bookshelves are really innovative and practical; they let you arrange the books in an interesting way, as you can see from these pictures. This multiple-sized shelf design called the Quad Bookcase can store your CDs, DVDs and books all in one clever product. Da-Eun Song designed this shelf that spells out “shelf.” This design might look cool, but I don’t think you could stay too relaxed in that space, I’d rather sit in a comfortable chair. This interesting shelf is called Bookworm.

Giant Paper Rose Flower If you loved the beautiful DIY wedding this morning and Nata’s gorgeous paper flower bouquets, you are in luck as Nata is sharing how she crafted them with us! She was inspired by a template created by Morgan Levine on Martha Stewart (as was I in the flowers I created for this styled shoot). I just love that this basic idea has inspired different brides to create their own version of giant paper flowers – you might remember these equally awesome giant paper flowers from this wedding I shared last year. :) Thanks so much Nata for sharing how you created your giant pink paper rose + special thanks to Studio Castillero for the photos of the DIY + her wedding! Materials (to make one giant rose) Step 1: Cut the petals Cut 5-6 teardrop petals and 15-6 heart-shaped petals from the petal colored crepe paper. IMPORTANT: Crepe paper is directional so it matters which way you’re cutting the paper. Repeat until all of your petals are cut Step 2: Cut the leaves + calyx Step 3: Make the rose stem

Tree-Inspired House Has Green Canopy & Geothermal Roots Concepts play a central role in architectural studio projects, but sometimes grow into real-life buildings as well Whether this ‘house tree’ was too literally developed or well-designed is still up for debate, though the sketched diagrams from Ignatov Architects are impressive either way. Trees have water-channeling and light-absorbing foliage, supported by branches that funnel nutrients to keep it alive … but that also preserve and serve to shelter what plants and animals lie below. Root systems provide underground stability but also draw sustenance from the earth. Like leaves, the upper layers of this home draw in solar energy and drain water toward a collection reservoir below – inside, real living greenery produces oxygen for inside the house (while selectively-tinted glass protects human inhabitants). Living and working areas are located with maximum access to light above, while sleeping and dining quarters are situated on the level below.

Artist-Designed Interiors: Art Hotel Bedroom Designs Each room design has a name and was created by a single artist – beyond there the similarities end and the remarkable differences begin. The Fox is an art hotel featuring everything from abstract minimalist black-and-white rooms to creatively colorful over-the-top interiors. With over 20 contributing artists and 60 unique rooms to stay in, the Fox Hotel has something for ever visitor and is certainly a great source for interior design inspiration – even for people who can not make the trek to Copenhagen. MONACO Interiors Organic Architecture: Living Tree Building Designs & Ideas Once a far-fetched futuristic idea, a living tree building is now not only possible but is also a reality – amazing living architecture that uses growing trees as their structural supports, twisted, shaped and connected as they make their way skyward. These so-called Botany Buildings by students from the University of Stuttgart use trees that meet a series of critical criteria, from fast growth rates to flexibility, adaptability and durability. The core structures are augmented with artificial elements and can be used to support everything from rooms and platforms to towers and walkways. Unlike conventional construction, there are many unique challenges that come with custom tree building techniques. While there are limitations to this kind of construction, tree buildings have a great deal of potential for do-it-yourself types who enjoy having a hand in the creation of their own alternative-style abode.

Cozy Bohemian House in Formentera, Spain Cozy bohemian summer house named Casa Daniela in Formentera, Spain. A beautiful concrete house by architects Victor Canosa – Dani Duch and the owner the Stylist Daniela Cavestany. If you are interesting Casa Daniela is available for rent and is priced around €400,00 to €1.000,00 per day. Falling Water, Revisited: Modern Green Pool-Cooled Home The Frank Lloyd Wright home featuring a flow-through waterfall may be the most recognizable residential design in modern history, but for all of its innovations its construction was extremely costly, not to mention the subsequent renovations required to hold its structure together over time. If that was the prototype for integrating moving water into houses, then this design may be one of the best executions of a contemporary, environmentally-integrated approach. Starting with water-shadow patterns cast upon the entry path, this overly austere minimalist structure is merely a backdrop for the complex interplay of architecture and water that defines this house from top to bottom, inside and out. Instead of situating the home on top of a waterfall, ponds were spread across much of the roof and wrap their way right into the interior spaces. Community, living and relaxation spaces are located on the second level, which enjoys greater views though less temperature control. Edit this entry.
